While I'm a fan of both Ram V's writing and Otto Schmidt's art (seriously, his time on Green Arrow was highly underrated), I think Future State: Catwoman is one of the strongest entries in the series to date. A great issue full of twists, turns, and even a few surprises. Future State: Catwoman builds on the events of Vs ongoing Catwoman run and gives us a tantalizing glimpse of a future built on the bones of the present. Future State: Catwoman is my favorite of all the Future State titles so far. Not only does it deliver one of the better depictions of life in Gotham under the Magistrate's rule, but it feels wholly connected to Ram V's regular Catwoman run. Otto Schmidt's fantastic art is worth the price of admission alone, but a few surprise character appearances and a well-paced script from Ram V make this a must read. Ram V is a recent addition to DC's talent pool, but he's already proving himself to be quite the storyteller. I found Future State: Catwoman #1 to be rather engaging and exciting. Future State may have had potential for some sort of a grand design that failed to materialize. Still, Ram V and Otto Schmidt take it in an interesting direction that could turn into something starkly appealing if everything comes together in the second issue. A classy futuristic costume seems to fuse a couple of different eras of Catwoman into a single image. The glittery darkness of an oppressive Gotham City in the background on a high-speed rail, the first issue of the two-part series definitely has pieces to be something special. Given the right reception, this version of Catwoman could even be worthy of her own series. Read Full Review

I do love a well handled dystopia, and this issue sets the scene for that with minimum exposition, little unnecessary context, but maximum intrigue. This issue teases us with so much; Gotham closed, Batman "dead", tyrants calling the shots" we're given a rich vision of the future, coloured perfectly by masterful artists. We're given nothing to spell why the world is the way it is, and this leaves many, myself first of all, so excited to find out what the state of this future might be. Read Full Review

Catwoman combines elements of an apocalyptic future and has some clear cyberpunk elements. Maybe it's simply the cold weather and the train, but I was reminded a little of the video game Metro. Because Catwoman is written by Ram V, who has taken over the regular Catwoman title a few months ago and will continue Catwoman in March, I knew what to expect and was looking forward to the Issue. I have really enjoyed his Catwoman. What I wasn't sure about was Otto Schmidt's art. While I enjoy his sketches and commissions, his actual comic art has never quite convinced me. I think he tends to draw women better than men. But he surprised me. Every character used in the Issue has a great design. They feel futuristic but still like a version of thems elves. And the coloring is simply amazing! Even more so because Schmidt did the coloring himself. But back to Ram V. A Catwoman train heist is nothing new. But stealing the train adds a different element to a heist Selina has done before. It's a natural progression. Especially for a Selina that has nothing else left to lose. I'm looking forward to Future State #2 and am excited for what else Ram V has in store afterward. more

I know this book was going to be amazing because I have following through Ram V's Catwoman Run, but I was not prepared for the fusion of Ram V and otto Schmidt, it was just amazing. it was one hell of a train robbery, I was surprised, shocked at every turn. by far my favourite future state book along with swamp thing and both were by Ram V at one point Selina talks about batman to Chesire, but Ram V focuses on the story rather than Selina being obsessed with the death of batman, which was a good move.

This was a very well-written issue. Everything about it was amazing. The artwork and character writing were awesome! Liked Cheshire Cat being introduced in this arc and the cliffhanger was great.

Future State is killing it so far. This might be one of the best books too. I have virtually no gripes with this. Great, cinematic action, simple but strong plot and Otto Schmidt on art makes this a knockout issue. And I dont even read Catwoman most times.

Ram V's been on fire lately, and this book is not an exception. It's well thought through, beautifully illustrated (oh, the art deco bike, so good), dynamic and surprising. Pretty much everything you'd ever want from a stand alone elseworld comic where regular continuity rules don't apply. The story may not be the most complex one, but what makes it work are effective plot twists as well as atmosphere built around it. You may think you know where everything's going, but then you're hit in the face and realize there's one more extra variable impacting everything. Kinda like Mad Max: Fury Road, in a way, which had a pretty straight forward script at first glance, BUT the amount of little turns, twists and surprises awaiting both the characte rs and the audiences made it click perfectly start to finish. That's how I feel about this comic as well. It's a heist done well, which can't be said about Robin Eternal's debut issue from last week, which... yeah, let's forget about it, okay? Certainly Catwoman's #1 is one of the best books Future State offered us so far. Highly recommend it. more
