You do fill in a few blanks on your own with a touch of imagination, but what she delivers with the characters and settings makes for a really engaging experience. I absolutely love the artwork and designs and Bellaire's color work is just fantastic in capturing the costume itself for her but also the places where they travel within the issue. I read all the Future State books this week, this is by far the best one. It has a perfect tone of the Wonder Woman epic adventure while also maintaining a healthy sense of humor that comes with a new character. I actually care about Yara Flor since she's a charming character and has a well defined goal and purpose. In Batman and Superman Future State Books, it just feels like more of the same, plus the anthology stories were hit or miss. I enjoyed that this was just one story throughout the entire book and was well focused. The art is spectacular, I expect nothing less from Joelle Jones. You know, I was skeptical when I heard Jones was writing this one, given how disappointing her Catwoman was, but this was all sorts of fun. And of course it looks incredible, but that was never in doubt.

Now that's one good start to the series! I loved every page of it, won't lie. Sure, Yara may be an irresponsible hotheaded asshole at times, but the atmosphere, originality and most importantly humor in this book all make the read so entertaining, it's unbelievable. It has to be the funniest and freshest comic since Tom Taylor's Suicide Squad, and I'm so, so glad Future State has at least one gem (two if you count The Next Batman, albeit two extra stories crammed into his debut book lowered my overall impression of it) in its catalogue so far. This is a really good comic, with memorable cast of characters (especially Caipora), tons of lighthearted comedy reminding me of manga and anime, and also heart. Okay, now I get why they fast-tracked a TV series for a character that had yet to appear in comic books. It's no small task to create a new character that's immediately this compelling, or to build a world for them. This issue hits a home run on both fronts. I hadn't been excited about reading this one at all because, while I love Jones' art, I was nonplussed by her writing on Catwoman. I'm so glad she got another shot at writing. I'm looking forward to everything she writes and/or draws going forward.

Really good one! I'm already in love with the character of Yara Flor. She is definitely not like Diana and it is a good point! I really want to discover a lot more of her. Of course the art of Joelle Jones is just magnificent, maybe her best work so far. Can't wait to read the number 2 and the serie that will tell more about Yara's past.

Maybe I'm just not the target audience, but this one really didn't "wow" me. The dialogue was kind of grating in places and the character felt a little one note at times. I was much more fascinated with the world than with Yara to be honest, and that's no way to start. I'll pick up the next one, bc the art is worth the price but I hope it picks up.

A nice introductory character showcase with fantastic art as you'd expect from Joelle Jones. A bit thin in story, and the narration that runs parallel with the action throughout most of the issue disrupted the pace at times.

Based on all of the info out there about Yara Flor I expected to be blown away by Future State Wonder Woman #1. Although there is a lot to like about DC's New Wonder Woman and the potential of the series I wasn't impressed by the issue. On a positive note, I love Yara's character design. Aside from the obvious race swap, there are some cool references to a mythology that doesn't get much attention in most mainstream books. It was also nice to see creatures pulled directly from Brazilian culture. Yara's costume is cool. Her weapons and toolset are distinct enough to make the character feel like more than a palette swap from Diana. As far as legacy characters we've seen a lot worse in recent years. It was not an exciting start, BUT IF THERE WAS ORIGINALITY and that is what I like, the funny thing is that you can see that these people have not been to Brazil, if you want to make a stereotyped character of this country maybe if you leave her tanned skin but green eyes. In Brazil there are many blacks but also white people and especially dark-skinned people with green eyes. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

The art was pretty good which is why I bought the book but the opening battle is straight from Hercules the Disney movie and the idea of her stealing a coin as a toll to see Hades was completely stupid. Skip this book.

I was surprisingly disappointed with our introduction to Yara Flor. I had high hopes for her character and couldn't wait for this issue, but something about it just didn't sit right with me. Specifically at the end *SPOILERS MOVING FORWARD* when she steals and starts a fight as she's trying to enter the underworld and gets excited about it? I know this is a new character, but she's holding the title of Wonder Woman and I just couldn't believe that moment. I can't even see Cassie (Wonder Girl) doing something like that. Yara just seems childish and immature. It's one thing to say in the comic that she's flawed, but this seemed different to me. I'm going to pick up the second issue since that's where this series ends, but man if it were an on more
