Overall, this was an issue that delivered a fast-paced, fun adventure that didnt stop from the first to final page.  Minor character issues from Barry aside, Williamsons writing was on-point, and he has earned the audience sticking around long enough to see if The Flash will step up to act like the hero we all know he should be. The Flash Rebirth run hits its best yet with this issue, and I think this will be a story Flash fans will remember for a long time. Grodd coming back as a villain is fantastic, and the team Flash dynamic makes it even better. Although it may feel slightly rushed towards the end, the issue overall hits every point it needed. Another shakeup for Barry's powers so soon after the Negative Flash arc seems like a bit much, but a great central villain keeps this series at the top of its game. Read Full Review

This new arc is giving writer Joshua Williamson his first real chance to play with Gorilla Grodd as a lead villain, and it's not disappointing so far. Williamson is able to paint Grodd as a menacing threat while still making his motivations clear and understandable. Read Full Review

Overall, I did really enjoy this issue and felt that it was a stronger issue than the start of the arc. Di Giandomenico’s art looks as good as it always those, but especially when you see Grodd’s face at the start of the issue. Di Giandomenico’s art is great for the Flash as it looks really kinetic. The Flash #40 benefits a bit from turning your brain off, but it is not because the comic is not good, only that the story of Grodd's pursuit of Speed Force powers seems to be sandwiched between a number of tangentially-related stories, one of which " "Flash War" " has been teased for so long that if you have a passing interest in the comic it is difficult not to wonder how all of this will play into it. Overall: The Flash #40 was a solid issue. Williamson continues to display a real knack for the Flash franchise. The true impact of The Flash #40 will not be realized until the events of Flash War have played themselves out. Having said that, Williamson has made The Flash a quality super hero title that is well worth the cover price. This is a very fast read that is a bit thin on overall story, but it has a very big moment that might lead to some interesting things coming up.  I liked the art a lot and if you are a fan of Wally West (either of them actually), you might want to pay attention to this book even before the Flash War begins. Flash #40 is far from the worst of the series, but its still an overstuffed comic that still pushes the plot forward very slowly and feels the need to pad itself. No one acts like a human being. The premise is cool, but it does very little of interest with it. The art is solid, but it doesnt save the comic from the numerous flaws. Again, I love Barry Allen more than any other DC hero, but I still have to say give this book a pass. Read Full Review

Excellent story and art. I am very happy to see Wally West (the original one) getting a central role in this saga. This storyline promisses to be one of the best modern Flash sagas in many, many years.

So from and ending in detective that I wasn't a huge fan or to an ending in this issue I loved. Wally West is back as THE Flash. None of this whose who of Wally's or how many Flashes we got. We have a Flash ( red head Wally) and a Kid Flash ( not red head Wally) I really hope we get more than an arc of Wally being the Flash. I like Barry but he has been going through some stuff lately and he needs to go find himself, or at least that's what all my high school girl friends told me!!! Give me at least 12 issues of Wally as the Flash please !!!! As for the story, I loved finding out why Grodd is the puppet master, since he's down with the sickness. But I don't like Meena or Raijin in this. These two as villains are falling flat to me. Grodd on the other hand, is drawn amazingly, looks ruthless, smart, and truly strikes me like an ACTUAL villain with some power to him. Love the issue and love to see where it's going! Keep it up Do you think Barry takes Godspeeds powers somehow? Could Barry try to help out team Flash but maybe takes a page out of the Rogues book using some of their tech? Do the Rogues just help him to stop Grodd? I feel like we've seen that one before...... This is a great issue. I love the ending and hope it sticks! It better not go back to the status quo in an issue or two. The story was enjoyable and easy to follow. The artwork enhances the story so much! A must read for every Flash fan!

Really solid issue. I was a little worried about Josh Williamson after Booldwork story arc, but it looks lile he is back in full swing with the quality of the story we got used to from the begging of Rebirth. Grodd is a great villain, which is seen both in dialogue and art (about that later). And premise of the story is great. Who is Barry Allen without The Flash? I guess we will find out in the coming issues. As for the art. Carmine Di Giandomenicos work was incredible form the start of the series. And in this issue it is no different. Frome the opening page of Grodss face, where he looks terrifying to the lightning effects and overall sense of motion. Like I said, solid issue. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
