Feb 06, 2019With truly inspired art choices, a love for the characters, and an all-too-relevant undertone, Female Furies crafts a poignant story that needs to be seen to be believed. Read Full Review

This book is going to make a big splash. The team has six issues to tell a complicated story about trying to take down Darkseid while also telling a poignant tale about how women are treated in the workplace, in the military, in everyday life and of course, in comic books. Run. Do not walk. Read Full Review

Mar 02, 2019Had this only been a one shot I would have been content with it. As a six issue miniseries, I am bursting at the seams for the next issue to come out. Read Full Review

Feb 08, 2019The art by Adriana Melo is perfect for this book. The two creators just knock it out of the park here. I wasn't sure how this would go, but I enjoyed it very much. If the rest of the series is as strong as this first issue, it will both satisfy and succeed far beyond my original reservations. Read Full Review

Feb 06, 2019FEMALE FURIES #1 is engaging right from the first pages. The book confidently presents a feminist critique of sex and power dynamics, and delivers a great story in the process. Stellar artwork backs up the storytelling. Read Full Review

Feb 06, 2019Adriana Melos art is as raw and unflinching as the story. Its beautifully detailed with a brilliant change in style between Grannys past and her present. The art in the past has a classic look and feel that is reminiscent of Kirby. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - David Harth
Feb 06, 2019Female Furies #1 gives readers a different look at Apokolips, but it's one that makes perfect sense. The only thing holding the book back is the steep learning curve, but Castellucci proved on Shade The Changing Girl and Shade The Changing Woman that she can take difficult, esoteric concepts and make them accessible. Adriana Melo's art is perfect for this book. The ending is a good hook to keep readers coming back, but beyond that the hope that Furies will get comeuppance against their oppressors should be enough for most readers. Read Full Review

Feb 06, 2018Shade taught me Castellucci could be insightful in bold new ways. Her return to DC in the form of Female Furies #1 shows that she can be singularly incisive as well; this time alongside Adriana Melo and Hi-Fi. Read Full Review

Kabooooom - Matt Morrison
Feb 07, 2019It's a crying shame the story is so flat because the artwork is gorgeous. Adriana Melo, while not an adherent of Jack Kirby's style, boasts a similarly bold aesthetic that has the same sense of scope that the New Gods demand. Hi-Fi's colors are equally well suited to this sort of story, but it's a bit of a waste given the actual story. Fourth World fans will enjoy this series, but few others will. Read Full Review

Feb 06, 2019This was very boring and very odd but incredibly gorgeous. I don't know who to recommend this to since it'll be way too heavy for some readers while also being out of nowhere for others. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone despite my appreciation of the art. Read Full Review

Newsarama - Richard Gray
Feb 07, 2019Contemporary conversations around abuse of power and privilege are far too important to be diminished by throwaway stories, and Female Furies comes dangerously close to undermining the positive progress the Me Too and similar movements have achieved. Falling far short of satire and just too plain weird to be take seriously as retro-flavored drama, if there is an intended audience here, it probably got lost in a Boom Tube along the way. Feb 09, 2019Female Furies wants very, very desperately to be A Very Important Comic. Unfortunately, bizarre shifts in tone, an inability to take its subject matter seriously in a consistent manner, and a tendency to reduce all its male characters to stock caricatures sap it of any potency it may have had. Bounding Into Comics - Dan Traeger
Feb 11, 2019To paraphrase a metaphor from mah boi Zack; When you write comics that are well established, long running narratives, you are not an artist. You are a hot dog vendor. There are many accouterments and condiments that you can use to make the hot dog, but your end result had better be a hot dog. These are not your characters. You are caretakers for the company's IP. If you want to serve up a plate of spaghetti get out of the hot dog store. That's what Image and the massive host of independent comics companies are for. Go write characters without roughly 50 years of backstory and characterization and you won't have to worry about writing a story that takes some research. It's not that difficult a concept to grasp.
