The addition of Mr. Worth to Batman's rogues' gallery has been one of the best decisions the Bat-books have made in some time. Despite knowing there are more issues to come in this arc, this story ended like a penultimate issue. Considering how good it ended, I am most definitely on board with more. In looking at the trend with the backup stories in Detective Comics, it is going to be interesting to see the role Penguin plays in this plot. Read Full Review

While the story, coloring, lettering, and backup are all putting in all the effort to make this a really great book there is no escaping the toxic cloud that is over it all because of Viktor Bogdanovic's presence on the book. DC Comics choice to continue to give work to problematic creators when there are so many other deserving individuals (check out the backup artwork) who should be given this chance. This book has become silly and convoluted and needs some focus.  So many things in this book are ill-explained or pushed aside, affecting any tension or mystery Tamaki tries setting up.  It all looks fantastic, but I find myself less interested in each issue. Read Full Review

Story-wise, I don't think this comic is worth the amount of money that they're charging customers. Now, I'm still crazy enough to pick up the floppies for the art because I'm such a big fan of these artists, but that doesn't mean that I recommend this. Instead, it's probably better to wait and see if the quality of this book improves over time before you spend your hard-earned money on this. It's a shame, really, because this story was off to a good, solid start. Hopefully the creative team can still course correct. Read Full Review

I really enjoyed both stories and loved seeing Cassandra Cain make an appearance in the second story. Mariko tamaki continues to do a wonderful job on detective

Detective Comics - a bit sillier this one, but nonetheless an enjoyable read even if the arts a poor man's Greg Capullo (still great), 8.5/10 Penguin - great comeback for the penguin, really dug it, even if the arts a poor man's Frank Quietly (still great), 9/10

A pretty decent issue, but I think it's about time we wrapped this one up, don't you think? In the old days Batman usually solved a murder case in a single issue, but then again he didn't always have an 8-foot-tall Mustachioed killing machine on a warpath to contend with along the way either. Mr. Worth is an interesting new foe and he shows promise as an even tougher enemy in the future. In fact the characters introduced in this book each show more promise than all the lameoids Tynion has cooked up put together. Vile is still mostly a mystery. He likely has a part in the conspiracy leading to "Fear State" I'm betting. Penguin's backup story is more important than the basic backup stories that are all an obvious excuse to raise prices. Par ticularly because it's connected to the main story. It's not surprising he's chummy with Worth seeing as they likely go to the same tailor. I'd really prefer no backup story and save a full dollar (Who wouldn't?) but I will say the last couple of issues prove Detective has the backup stories most worth the extra buck. more

A short brawl is ready to distract Batman from a bigger plot brewing. Not that the distraction won't be a big threat with how Worth makes an alliance with Penguin. Who in this case is ready to take back his place as a major villain in Gotham.

I don't really know what to make of the bad reviews for this, mostly because none of them actually explain what the problems are. I will say this one feels like spinning wheels, especially with how Mr. Worth gets arrested just to literally get out the next page. What was the point of that? But it's quality wheel spinning. It feels like Batman more than Tynion's run does. The backup was pretty good, but I have to wonder why that journalist was such an idiot.

Hoopla is a great app, and is one of the biggest reasons why I get so frustrated by entitled comic readers who resort to piracy instead of the multitude of legal ways to stay up to date on comics.

I am against it if you have reasonable access to the content, at least for industries as tiny as the comic book industry. By reasonable access, I mean you could buy it or go through legal means to read it otherwise. Obviously, in countries where comics just aren't available, it becomes more reasonable.

We have a good industry here, but we're still behind in many ways,our first Omnibus came out last year, the first absolute came out last month. The most important series and titles have been collected already, but there are a large numbers of runs to cover yet. Flash by Waid and Johns, Starman by James Robinson, JLA by Grant Morrison.

And yeah, **US-based** comic book readers have various methods to read legally, but for kids and a teenagers, I suposse it is ok to read some stuff illegaly, since you don't have a salary to afford multiples titles every month

Around and about the same as issue #1037. Enjoyable outing that moves the story along but with some issues in regards to pacing. The story is better paced then #1037, doesn´t feel like just a set of scenes stringed together, but it´s still over a bit to soon and not entirely satisfying by the end. Did like the added moments of small humour and Worth, while not as complexed as I would´ve hoped, is at least entertaining to read about with his affinity for explosions and comedically large weapons. The book got one backup this time around, focused the Penguin. It´s fine. It could´ve made its point in a much shorter span but all in all it´s, again, just fine.

This series since the new changes has been damaged. The writer is definitely bad at writing a topic that refers to mystery, she definitely tries. The change in art is another thing that has declined, it is not bad, however it is a very abrupt change.

"It's hard not to feel the strike of someone's heart breaking. The snap inside your chest... When you lose that thing that makes you feel human." - Batman - And certainly Bruce / Batman know about this, being numb inside. Hell, I couldn't even get a decent opening sentence. Nor could find coherence in to unrealistic reactions. It has too many inconsistencies, exploding the place where they had Bruce captive, could be overstated by a hurt parent, But there doesn't make sense is the lack of evidence to lock up Bruce, only for mentioned one.

Its typical Tamaki start with a glimmer of promise but fall in quality very quickly. Being kneecapped by catering to a failed concept in Future State isn't helping matters either.

This is like the sinking of the titanic, and I just prefer to laugh than cry, we will see how much it collapses, in May it had number 41 in unit sales and 35 of the best sellers by dollar. And the backup story, someone from above helps these people, what was that? HA! Sometimes the cheap turns out to be expensive.

Well said fenix. Tamaki is being Tamaki..she shows promise right at the start and quickly falls down in narrative and quality. The big problem is being shackled to Future State. Writing to continue a failed concept is simply inhibiting good creative writing.

I never liked her for Detective Comics, too big for her, I HATE THE WAY THEY ARE NEGLECTING BATMAN, it seems that DC wants to end the character at its roots. FS is completely a mess, well that part of the comics is not with its policy of anything goes. A year of much experiment, I hope the next one will be better.
