Priest really made his run one of the more unique and consistently strong reads of the Rebirth era. The ending suggests theres more to come and hopefully at some point Priest will revisit Slade and his dysfunctional supporting cast. Read Full Review

While some aspects of this conclusion felt forced to get there, it ultimately was a fun read that did its best to tie up any loose ends and put our characters back to their status quo for the next person who wants to play in Deathstroke's sandbox.  There was some action, some feels and a conclusion that only felt right for the character, even if I wanted more from him in the end, not to mention some great art throughout.   Read Full Review

a really strong ending, no holding back a few references and throwbacks as you expect, some good conclusions for some characters and just a really nice character study for slade wilson i dont want to get into details this time, i dont want to spoil this issue since it's the big finale so, i will just say a big thank you, to everyone who worked on this title it really was something special to me and others what a journey, man what a bash

I can't give this comic anything less than a 10. Yes, the ending was rushed as hell (would really have benefited from having 52 issues), but, for what this comic was trying to accomplish? Like it's main character, it did so with ruthless eficciency. Carry on Slade, see you soon.

Prelude: It's the final issue of Priest's Deathstroke. Will Priest be able to land this series or will he falter so close to the finish line? The Good: Interesting that Priest incorporates the Dark Multiverse into this story but I quite liked the origin of Dark Slade. Dark Slade and Slade are such great parallels for each other, showing what might have been their life if their choices were different. I love this exploration of Slade. That's what this series has been about and it is great seeing that all come to light fully here. This ties up Jericho's arc up pretty well too. We get a look into how good Slade's life could but in the end, he has to be Deathstroke and that goes before the family. Art was great in this issue . Pagulayan and Pasarin brought their absolute A-game for this issue. The Bad: Priest's run is over. Conclusion: Easily one of Priest's best issues in the entire run. Hits all the thematic notes and motifs and ties the whole series up with a nice bow. more

And the journey ends here. 50 issues, that's what it took Priest to tell his story, and conclude it in this book. We've seen Slade developing his relationship with Rose, we've seen him face Titans once more, be a superhero for a while, lose his sight and get a brand new deus ex eye, trying to get rid of Damian Wayne who though he's his father we've seen Joseph going through one of the most complex and mature romantic triangles I've seen in years, and Rose becoming possessed by some weird ancient spirit, or whatever Willow's supposed to be. It was quite a trip - uneven at times, convoluted, sometimes missing the mark completely, but overall Priest's Deathtroke was one of the biggest highlights of DC's Rebirth, no doubt about it. He brought l ife to the titular character, gave him human personality and motivations. Slade is not a one dimensional pedophile Wolfman and Perez created him as - he evolved, a lot. And a lot of that was done by Priest. Is this finale a good conclusion? Well... it's not bad, that's what I can guarantee. A lot of loose ends has been resolved, the mystery of evil crazy old Deathstroke was explained... kinda, and everyone who survived, got a moment to unite peacefully, and have a brief moment of normalcy. I'm a bit disappointed we didn't have a chance to see each of the main characters being impacted by the main events more. Time skips can be annoying, and one is used at the end of the book, making Rose, Joseph and Adeline's process of grieving their losses that less impactful. Reminds me of rushed TV series eason finales. The good part would most definitely have to be the ideological conflict between two Slades. Priest nailed their dialogues, perfectly, and put emphasis on showing our Slade's aforementioned humanity. Yeah, he can be a bad guy at times, but he has his code of honor, which can be easily overlooked by the reader. That's what make him such a compelling character in the first place. Comic definitely worth picking up, if you've been following the series, even occassionally. It'ss an end of a chapter, and let's hope the next writer will serve us something at least as decent as Priest's series. more

I'm basically in agreement with Nihilist on this specific issue. Not so much on my view of the series overall. I feel like this series lost its steam around the Batman vs Deathstroke arc. I remember at the time telling a friend who was convinced to read that arc that "the series is usually better than this." And it never really recovered from there. I mean, even Defiance had some issues. I just feel like Priest's inherently convoluted storytelling leads to the uneven nature of his comics. When it pays off, it really feels gratifying, but if it doesn't, it just feels hollow... This issue is a mix of those two feelings. Priest has some very antiquated writing tropes that usually hinder his work, in my experience. Those are on full display at some points in his run. That's why it's so hard for me to really care about this story. I liked it at points, found it frustrating at others, and end up coming away from it with a refreshing sense of indifference. more
