DC vs. Vampires #10

DC vs. Vampires #10 is an excellent escalation of the plots established in the last issue, translating the visual style of Schmidt into a moving pace that barrels towards the inevitable conclusion of heroes vs vampires. The scale and color palette of this issue channel the aesthetic of a DC crisis, and gives this series a fun dramatic core, as though it's a sense of pulpy counterprogramming to the mainline event taking place on the other end of DCs publishing landscape. With a strong script full of fully realized characters, dynamic art, and a powerful color palette, DC vs. Vampires holds up as one of the best books that DC is putting out right now. Given the prolonged nature of the vampires' advantage, the series probably didn't need 12 issues, but now that the heroes are striking back there's reasons to be excited about DC vs Vampires again. Read Full Review

The bad news is that this issue convinces me that the tie-ins have absolutely diminishes the quality of the series. The books may each have their individual merits, but every attempt to connect them has resulted in unnecessary anachronisms. In better news, Otto Schmidt's art might be slipping here and there, but every page is still gorgeous. The various teams and characters are entertaining and the icky vampires are still creative. Despite it's flaws, there are more reasons than not to stay tuned in to DC Vs. Vampires. I hope things continue to come together as we approach the end. Read Full Review

DC Vs. Vampire #10's fatal flaw has to be the artistic renderings and illustrations this week mixed with forced humor that doesn't hit the mark. The incredibly dark reds, messy images, and sharp line work makes for a difficult read. Additionally, the (what was supposed to be) epic reveal from Babs wasn't very epic, came out of nowhere and felt like something that could have been done many issues ago. Read Full Review

The pieces are set and we're picking up the pace. Supergirl has reached her objective in Australia, Green Arrow will have to fight, Barbara and Damian don't agree in the way thigns have to be done. As fast-paced and adventurous this ws, it feels very "calm-before-the-storm" and I really wonder how this series will end from here.

We're nearing the endgame and everything seems to be in its place. Green Arrow's part was surprisngly sentimental (and the ST bit hilarious - We will never speak of it again). Barbara wants to win while keeping her humanity, something I'm not sure will be possible (and her plan was pretty cool as well). Damian simply wants to win. Supergirl, Steel and Jayna continue bringing the most humane part to this Elseworld. Can't wait to see how it resolves. Really like that the focus is on 3 small, personal stories despite the high stakes setting.

This was very good again. This series is ending soon and it's been a wild ride. We finally get into Gotham. The little character moments packed with the dialogue, between Supergirl's team, Green Arrow and Hawkman and specially Barbara and Damian are just so very well done, it's a series that keeps you entertained just with those bits. But it also knows how to pack a lot of content in a single issue. The heavyhitters are distracted and we discover how Gotham functions. Green Arrow has surprising plan to save everybody. We find out Damian isn't necessarily that "good" perse, more interested in having revenge. Kara has found the way to get to space, now we'll see what opposition she might face and Barbara decides what limits she wants for herself in this fight and reveals her all-out atatck plan. more

Definitely the top issue of this series, plenty of great moments to absorb in #10! Still my only grief is, why Nightwing as the King of Vampires? This has not been answered, and just does not fit Nightwing's character to me. I don't like him as the villain, but I don't know that is me. Nonetheless great series for crazy vampire stuff!
