Batman/Superman Annual 2021 #1is a tremendous and fascinating look at what happens when you mix and change key things to the worlds of Batman and Superman. Yang is masterful at creating and depicting these variations of the DC Universe while putting its most iconic heroes through new and unique challenges. The art by Francavilla, Pelletier, and Gray enriches these issues and the worlds they depict tremendously, immersing readers even further into Yang's stories. Overall, the Batman/Superman Annual 2021 is a nice capstone to a phenomenal, albeit brief, run. Yang was kind enough to give us a fun follow-up on some of the plotlines he established early in his run. This annual is put together really well, making good use of the medium, and it's a delight to see these characters once more. The stories themselves won't add too much to the main story, but they do stand on their own and it's just a good time. Younger readers will probably have a blast reading this as well. This feels like the perfect follow-up to that Batman/Superman story by Yang and as a standalone epic. Between the two worlds, you have Superman fill in a sense of hope lost in the World of Knight complete with a unique art style by Francavilla where Superman stands out so much in the noir-like world. Plus in the World of Tomorrow, the cinematic brightness of Batman's presence feels like a synthesis of the Adam West campiness with the Batman depiction from the Brave and the Bold. Especially since it deals with Bruce finally finding a little closure with his mother's death when meeting her counterpart. Plus it's one of the only times that a flipbook feels like a good idea in terms of stylizations.

Like the rest of this Archive of Worlds story, this is a whole lot of fun. I will miss this one.

This was a fun follow-up to the regular story, proving there's more adventures ahead for these versions of the world's finest. Gene Luen Yang has given us another great for the shelves fit to be sat beside Superman Smashes the Klan. I'm not a very big fan of the multiverse. Frankly I liked it better when it was wiped out. But this story has provided me with a rare exception. I hope to see further follow ups featuring this version of Batman and Superman. Maybe a mini-series? It's hard to tell though when DC will come to their senses and realize no one wants Batman or Superman replaced and fix the damage they're doing to themselves.

I liked this but I feel cheated by it. The last page from the last issue proposed an encounter with Darkseid. No such thing happened here. Both stories are good but I hate it when writers bait people to buy their books. I'm giving it 7.5 not just for this issue but overall because this series was pretty good from the beginning and who knows when the next Batman/Superman book will come out given DC's plans.

Still one more issue, but it's a Mxy issue... the Darkseid stuff is continuing in the Joshua Williamson stories it seems. If you look at last issue, it says the Annual will continue the filmverse stuff and then there is the seperate epilogue with Darkseid.

This annual is a less impactful epilogue to the recent story in the main book, but it's yet another experimentation with the comics medium that's surely interesting.
