This is Superman at his funnest. The art is great, the storytelling is great, and the entire experience is just great! My only small disappointment is not seeing the "Super Twins at the dinner table in the beginning of "In Love. At Work., but that really is a minor thing. Read Full Review

Gail Simone's arc on Action Comics is set at some point in the past in a stylized Metropolis inspired by the 1970s comics. But she's managing to give us a Superman story that's truly timeless in the best way, as alien conquerors have come for Earth and set Superman an impossible task. Read Full Review

The throwback tale of the Man Of Steel continues its winning ways with another great issue. Simones writing delivers on the heros will versus improbable odds. Barrows, Miki and Lokus construct the larger than life images that make this only meant for the iconic hero. Looking for the Man of Tomorrow? Look no further than the past with this story. Action Comics #1068 is WELL worth your attention. It's got enough classic Superman in it while at the same time addressing a more modern look at the Superman/ Lois dynamic. There's character work both subtle and direct throughout the issue. There's great action and Eddy Barrows delivers on the visuals. First story: The artwork is beautiful (especially Superman himself) and the story is well-written and engaging. That said, the story isn't particularly original, the visuals confused me once or twice, and Superman's power level seems a bit low (though that could be justified by this story taking place in the past). Second story: Actually more interesting to me than the first, though the artwork isn't nearly as good (but still good). I love things that focus on Clark's life as a reporter and this is a unique plot leveraging Lois' current status as Editor in Chief. It's good to see a conflict between Lois and Clark that feels fairly serious while still being in-character for both of them, and I'm very intrigued to see the conclusion, inclu ding what's going on with Atomic Skull. more

Simone's story sticks to the basics at showing what Superman is. Who he is, how he can rally people to his cause, the extent he will go to, to get things done. To me this is the epitome of an 8/10. The story is solid and art is good. However it does not quite get that wow factor out of me. Do not get me wrong. This is a good story worth reading and for a 3 issue story would be a great intro to someone who has never read Superman before to give you a great idea of who he is, but for longer time readers of Superman it isnt exactly new. Backup story was sort of frustrating. Lois and Clark are just not communicating and Lois seems in the wrong here. While her actions may have reasons, she is not explaining them to Clark well and just messin g around with him. Kind of makes her look like a jerk. Simone's story is great, solid but not breathtaking. The back-up...well we need to see how that goes. more

This issue was a vast improvement over the fist issue. Though the story plot isn't very interesting or original, Simone does a great job with Clark, Lois, and Jimmy's voices which added some much needed depth to the story. The back up was painful with Rowell's take on Lois. At least Rowell handled Clark properly rooting on the pogo stick girl.

The best Superman stories, in my opinion, are the Cosmic ones; where he's in outer space fighting against alien beings with powers comparable to his own. This is a good example of this. The world building with an alien race who organise gladiatorial contests involving the peoples who they conquer, is fascinating. There's lot of great moments of selfless heroism by Superman, which is is what every Superman story needs. My only gripe is that this laid on just a little too thickly for my taste, and it's a bit saccharine. The back up story, Lois and Clark, tells what happens when Lois is promoted above Clark and a wedge is driven between them. It's actually an excellent little character study and I'm probably more excited to see how this resolv es than with the main story. The artwork is strong in both stories, if a little academic. There's enough in this book to justify the cover price. more

First story is a decent read. Superman, Lois and Jimmy feel like themselves and are in an interesting story. It’s just not told all to spectacular and that’s ok but some of the narrator dialogue is syrupy to say the least. If you know Superman it’s a little overkill but if you’re new to him I guess it might work. The second story just didn’t speak to me. Lois felt wrong and Superman not talking to Jimmy and the girl at the end felt off too. Mileage will very on this story.

Ugh, This book was a chore to get through. The main isn't bad, it isn't good though either. The back up is absolute drek. Honestly, call Dan Jurgens up and throw some money at him to save this book.

Same as before 7.5 for main story by Simone and Barrow, 0 for the bonus story by Rainbow Turd 💩 Simone lost a little steam in this ish but Barrow's really pumped out plenty of great panels as usual. I like his classic style. I would say the worst moment was when Superman had to face his last 3 second challenge that put 15+ million people at risk of annihilation, Lois gave him a speech on why she became a reporter and it was so basic and lame. "It's not for fame. I know people think that. It was because everywhere I looked there was a problem I couldn't do anything about. Crime, malfeasance, hunger, disease, war, inequality." And that was enough to inspire Superman.Idk seemed like a very by the book kind of answer and took me out o f the moment. Lastly the bonus story continues Lois's campaign to emasculate her husband Clark and sending him to do obituaries and dumb stories wasting his talent for some fat intern and of course to girl boss. He clearly seems to be pissed off justifiably so but I still don't like this unnecessary divide between Lois and Clark. It feels like she is treating him like a bitch and putting him in his place. If Clark was editor I don't picture him treating Lois is such a disrespectful manner like this. Disgusting. more
