While Superman embarks on a quest to get his kid back with the help of a very confused but competent John Constantineand a few surprising guests in the climaxthere are some really excellent scenes with Kara and Osul as well, as Johnson continues to make the most of this powerful new Super-family he's built. As we close this chapter on Phillip Kennedy Johnsons illustrious work on Superman, and his worlds, both in space, and on planet earth, we get a simultaneous feeling of joy and sorrow. Joyful over the ups and downs, as were greeted with a Superman who always lives up to the meaning of truth, justice, and a better tomorrow, and to be honest, thats all we can ask for. Superman may be the first superhero ever created, and despite being 85 years old, still can give us hope that theres going to be a better tomorrow. To those who are going to follow up this run, I say good luck. I cant wait to see whats next. Read Full Review

While Phillip Kennedy Johnson's run on Action Comics has, overall, been very good with some truly excellent storytelling, Action Comics #1060 is a little on the weaker side overall. Read Full Review

    The Comicbook Dispatch - StoryBabbler

Action Comics #1060 is the penultimate issue of this storyline as it directly sets up the final confrontation between Superman and Norah Stone, or rather Sister Shadow. However, he won't be facing her and her Empire of Shadows alone as he teams up with Etrigan and Bloodwynd to save his adopted daughter. The thing is, this issue's main purpose is to explain Sister Shadow's whole deal and get Superman to where he needs the go for the Annual. The only problem is not much else happens, not with Superman and Constantine, while Sister Shadow's portions of the comic are mostly exposition with some cool visuals but that's it. Despite this, I am confident the creative team will deliver a more excitable finale to this story arc. Read Full Review

Ultimately, Johnson and co. don't deliver as hard as they usually do, but are saved by the intense signs of war in "Past is Prologue". I do have high hopes for the future of the Superfamily and Dreamer as the teases to their upcoming storylines show exciting adventures awaiting 2024. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez

    Dec 14, 2023

Action Comics #1060 ends the main story with a tease and teases two new stories that continue in other titles. Of the three shorts, Phillip Kennedy Johnson's penultimate chapter of New Worlds is the most complete, and Nicole Maines and Steve Orlando's setup for Dreamer on the Suicide Squad is the most contrived and messy. This is so good thank God this got better. This art by Eddy Barrows and the others is perfection. I really took my time to enjoy and breath it all in. Each character looks distinct and unique compared to the crappy art of the issues I've been criticizing. Bruce's evil daughter is so damn cool, some of the coolest stuff where she is talking to Otho about her plan to take over Earth 0. I love the evil Batman armies behind her it looks so sick. And when Supes asked Constantine for help in the back of my mind I was hoping Etrigan would show up and guess what my wish was granted and I was so happy to see Etrigan. So happy to read this now because before Everytime I had to force myself to keep reading Action Comics but now I can't wait t more

PKJ nails it again, the backups are serviceable again.

I enjoyed the way Constantine was written in this. I'm a big proponent for the idea that Constantine should not interact with capes, however if you are going to do that, this is the way you write him. Unimpressed and annoyed.

With PKJ leaving (without a conclusion to his latest saga in the main title; you need to pick up the Annual for that), and a pair of lackluster backups that are there to shill other DC titles, this provides a good jumping-off point for me. I'll check back from time to time on the DCUI Ultra app in a few months.

A big nothing burger. This series is over priced for what you get. A lackluster main with two back up stories that no one asked for. If they want to fix this book focus on one main story and kill off the entire "Super Family" with the only exception being Superboy Conner Kent. The rest can be tossed into a big old cosmic vortex that erases them from continuity and memory. One more thing why is the Annual in January? I thought that "Knight Terror" was this years Annual...Guess not. So way to ding your readers for more money if they want the conclusion to your dragged out story that goes nowhere. Oh well the important thing to remember is that you tied an onion to your belt, which was the style at the time They didn't have any white more
