Mighty Morphin #9 throws new challenges at the Rangers, continuing to upend the status quo that fans have come to associate with the mythos. I'm thankful for these comics, as they manage to capture everything I love about Power Rangers while presenting it in a new light. This book continues to highlight some strong characterizations, especially in Skull, Billy, Zedd, Zelya and Zordon. It still continues to be a lost opportunity to make Aisha, Rocky and Adam stronger individual characters. These are characters we had too little time with on the show, and it feels like such a disappointment to not spend some dedicated time with them here. Not going to lie, I never really saw Zedd as a character with much depth. I mean, the visual is what makes him so iconic, but when you scratch further than the surface, there hasn't been much there. That's slowly but surely changed over the course of Mighty Morphin, and that transformation continues in issue #9, including a riveting conversation between Zedd and Zelya that pretty much hooked me for issue #10 instantly. I like the way the comic adds depth to the situations. In the old show any disputes were easily settled by the end of the episode. But here we see tension like that between Billy and the others now that the truth is out. And between Matt and Tommy. Though we've seen additional Rangers work separate from the traditional team in a few series, this is the first time in Mighty Morphin. That adds some intrigue. Matt also seems to relish in the positive attention revealing his identity has gotten him. I don't really care for him as a character so it will be a welcome sight when karma bites him in the backside. Zedd seems to know the Eltarians aren't the noble beings with the preservation of the universe they're seen to be. Could he know about the Emperyals? Interesting stuff ahead. more
