Memetic is a hilarious story with references from cover to cover about inernet culture. By hilarious, I also mean horrible. The art by Eryk Donovan, who works with Tynion on Thrillent's The House In The Wall, is simply frightening. The irony of the image of a happy sloth as the backdrop for macabre human masacre is wonderfully done. Donovan uses the simple image to evoke the right feeling at the right time; often, more than one feeling is present, and more often than that those feelings are conflicting. Memetic is a great read for anyone "from the internet," or simply intersted in a new horror piece. This is a great piece of Gothic horror that I believe does justice to authors like Radcliffe, Poe, and Lovecraft. Read Full Review

There are about a dozen other smart things happening in Memetic that are worthy of analysis from strong characterization to inventive use of memetic theory but at my core I am most touched by Aarons condition, the human condition, and the kind of sadness that I dont like to remember having anymore. But it comes back faster than I would have expected. Amid the chaos and along with the smarts, Tynion has woven within this book a beautifully authentic rendition of isolation and loss that I cant and wont soon forget. Read Full Review

Eryk Donovan is a fantastic artist that keeps raising the stakes. A beautiful splash page near the end had me holding my breath as I looked at it. You get the same rush as the character being depicted does and it caused me to completely stop in my tracks. It's the best kind of art that makes you feel, causes you to relate, and Tynion and Donovan are doing a great job at that. Read Full Review

I do think Donovan could stand to spend more time better fleshing out his background details and work on a few significant gaffs in perspective, but for the most part, his energetic style is a blessing to the book. If Tynion can now separate himself from trying to please millennial emo fans and focus on the painfully interesting world story he has set up, I'll still be a Memetic fan. Otherwise, I'll just have to admit this story isn't for me, unplug and move along. Read Full Review
