Angel #8

The best issue of Angel so far, as each new comic is released there’s an improvement on the one before and like the TV series I think we’ll find this ends up eclipsing it’s parent series of Buffy. Another must have issue, great writing coupled with fantastic art and colors make this an awesome issue and a reminder that the Buffyverse is such a rich playground for these great characters. Angel #8 is another strong issue in a series of them. The dynamic between Spike, Gunn, and Fred is exciting, and theyre solidifying into an impressive team. Sooner or later, though, the title character will have to return; heres hoping that doesnt ruin the balance Hill and Melnikov have created here. Read Full Review

Another tie-in issue bites the dust and continues making us as interested in what goes on outside of the Hellmouth, as we are in what is unfolding within. Angel #8 marks the start of something exciting when Spike offers his own brand of heroics which varies so differently from the gloomy vampire. This could go right, or it could go very wrong. In terms of basic storytelling execution, this issue is decent enough, but some extremely off-model characterization is causing the entire house of cards that is Boom's Buffyverse reboot to collapse under its own fatal misunderstanding of the characters and their world. Read Full Review

I enjoy Spike in this, although I wish things were a bit clearer with where his character lies. He's been odd since the reboot begun, and I want some clarification on his history. I'm interested in seeing how Angel and Spike interact in the next issue, which won't be out till late February, unfortunately. That'll be a painful wait. As for the other characters, I'm still not sure about this incarnation of Wolfram & Hart or Fred. There's a ton to be explored here.
