While seeing our heroes being melancholy isn't very entertaining, Archie #13 approaches the topic in a good way that still leaves readers hopeful things will work out in the end. Cheryl adds a whole new dynamic to the series and gives Veronica something to focus on until she figures out a way to return to Archie. As a bonus, the issue also includes a classic Archie story from 1982, Cheryl and Jason Blossom's first appearance to the series. It's a fun story and Cheryl's personality has evolved since this. You can still tell she's a bit of a troublemaker from her first few panels. Just like she did then, her appearance in this revival series is sure to stir up some trouble -and fun. Read Full Review

The artwork is brought by a new artist this time: welcome Joe Eisma. His style is awesome, and falls in line with other artists on the book previously, so it feels right at home. Waid and every group of artists have given this classic series a remarkably fun and relatable update that honors its past. Serving as an interlude of sorts following last issue's big upheavals, Archie #13 also gets a change-up of a different sort, with Joe Eisma joining as the series artist. And boy, was that an excellent pick - Eisma has had a lot of practice drawing teenage characters over in Morning Glories, and there's a surprising amount of heart to his angular style, particularly during a scene where Archie struggles to live a life without Veronica in it. Sparing use of splashy layouts helps to drive home emotion for readers who thrive off the great visual cues of comics. For fans who have been continuing to enjoy this series, this issue will move them along. However, for those who need more or fuller characterization, trade waiting might bring hope down the line. Well now. I had been about to give up on Archie when my subscription expired, but this is much much better. The new artist is great, and I hope he has a good run. The story is also much improved. I am back on board.

The art is a little better than the last two issues, but the writing is worse. I'm about ready to give up on this title...I see from the comichron charts that I'm not the only one. In just a little over a year, sales on this title have gone from 101,488 to 14,341...Archie Comics needs to take a new approach to this book and to all their comics in general.
