    Ultimate X-Men #13 is an oh-so-random issue where the blossoming Ultimate X-Men fight the Shadow King and his thralls, but it's not what you think. Peach Momoko's action-heavy issue hits the mark in terms of pacing and excitement, but the major downside is the complete lack of pretext, meaning, and importance when you find out what's “really” going on.     I was genuinely confused at first. Seeing all the girls together threw me off because I didn't remember Natsu being found in the last issue. But the first page should have been the giveaway with the bubbles, and it just went over my head. Spoilers, this was all a vision, it was all in Shinobu's & Hisako's head. With that out of the way, Peach Momoko pulled out her entire bag of tricks for this issue. The contrasting red tones with the black shadows and eventually the purple tones from Kwannon's powers made this issue an incredible display of Momoko's mastery over coloring and brushing techniques. There's the horror element brought by Shinobu's shadow powers. There's gore when Mori's is caught by Natsu. Let alone the action sequences of the more

    I knew this was a dream sequence from the very beginning, though it was still very interesting. Some solid action and writing from Momoko, in my opinion. After that ending, also, I'm definitely interested to see where things go from here. Hopefully this run continues to go upwards in trajectory, in terms of its quality.
