ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM! Using a combination of science and magic, Doctor Doom has taken over the world, which means Wyn - sole Avatar of The-Powers-That-Be (think: Magic God) - has an interest in how this happened AND how to stop it. His sworn apprentice, Mia DiMaria - a college-aged woman disillusioned with most magic, some science and definitely ALL of her job working for Wyn - is brought along, and soon finds herself at the center of a crisis that could impact Earth for generations to come. And worst of all, Doctor Victor Von Doom believes Mia has potential - especially if she were to be freed from Wyn's control. Doom offers freedom, but all more

G.O.D.S.: One World Under Doom #1 is an entertaining one-shot, with cheer-worthy character moments, action, humor and conflict that fleshes out the main One World Under Doomstory. Mia DiMaria is a character to watch out for, as it is likely Ryan North has plans for her in the near future. Read Full Review

G.O.D.S.: One World Under Doom #1 is a thoughtful and character-driven one-shot that rekindles interest in Wyn and Mia, but its exposition-heavy approach and limited narrative payoff may frustrate anyone hoping for more than just a refresher on forgotten cosmic players. Read Full Review

I thoroughly enjoyed this issue. I'm not usually a fan of the magic side of Marvel. Don't care about Dr. Strange or any of that stuff. I somewhat enjoyed GODS, but more for its potential than what it actually was. I'm not a big fan of Doom either, but I appreciated the character building this issue did with him. The dialogue was fantastic, the art was solid and the story was interesting. I expected this book to be around a 7 for me, I was very pleasantly surprised.

TBH, it was brave of North to pick up what could be considered a poisoned chalice - a project that was built up with months of hype only to fall flat and get swept under the rug. Seeing him offer a bit of cheeky meta-critique through Mia's impatience with Wyn is somewhat rewarding (Wyn does get gradually less sympathetic through the course of G.O.D.S. #1-8, and the final issue spotlighting him doesn't help that at all), and if this were setting up a revitalised G.O.D.S. series with North at the helm, I'd be intrigued.
