The New Avengers Issue 1 sets up a team that's ready to be nasty. It's a lively, thrilling comic with an incredible art style. Read Full Review
Ton and Rain did an incredible job making the mutilated clones look similar to faces we know from our Avengers but, the twists they have put on them make it that much more fun and horrifying. Namor's clone being a light blue octopus of sorts was a fun design and seeing the duo take up the task of being creative with these creatures enhances this issue. Laura's slashing and blood-soaked introduction is a close second as the art doesn't shy away from how violent she can be. Tie it in with Joe bringing the heart and words to life and this first issue kicks ass! Read Full Review
New Avengers #1 is gritty, chaotic, and brimming with personalitylike a Molotov cocktail thrown into the superhero genre. Sam Humphries proves he understands that Avengers doesnt have to mean noble. Sometimes it just means necessary. This could become the sleeper hit of Marvels 2025 lineupif it doesnt implode first. Read Full Review
Lima delivers some beautifully detailed and visually intense art throughout the issue. I like the visual style of the issue and how intense the imagery captures the tone of the story. Read Full Review
The debut issue of New Avengers kicks things off with energy and style, setting the tone for what could be a wild ride ahead. Sam Humphries delivers strong character work, capturing distinct voices while keeping the momentum brisk. Visually, the book shines thanks to striking artwork and bold color choices that bring the chaos to life. The dynamic between Bucky and Natasha crackles with potential, and the rest of this unpredictable crew adds even more intrigue. It's a solid launch, and one that promises more stylish tension and messy team-ups to come. Worth keeping an eye on. Read Full Review
The New Avengers #1 kicks off with confident swagger, combining edgy character choices with stylish visuals and high-octane pacing. It's a thrilling, bloody remix of the classic Avengers formula that trades old-school heroics for dangerous alliances and brutal confrontations. While not every visual lands, the story crackles with energy and stakes that promise an unpredictable ride. Read Full Review
New Avengers #1 is a solid start to what promises to be an interesting anti-hero epic. Fans of the Hulk and Carnage may be disappointed we do not see them in this first issue, despite what the cover promises. Nevertheless, it is a thrilling opening act with good art and great character work. Read Full Review
New Avengers #1 is an exciting and entertaining opening issue and a positive start to the series by Sam Humphries and co. The characters are written well and the art and colours make it a visually pleasing read. I'm definitely looking forward to more Bucky and Natasha making Marvel sexy again, as well as the rest of this “unsettling team” assembling. Recommended! Read Full Review
Whether you're a fan of this type of storytelling and concept really is the determination if you should get New Avengers #1. It's a solid debut and the team dynamics are interesting so far. But, it falls into that “dysfunctional team” category of concepts, which is usually a Thunderbolts series, which can be hit and miss. The first issue definitely shows off potential though and we're sure this series will play into the future of the Marvel comic universe in a big way. So, no matter your interest, this is one to keep your eyes on. Read Full Review
New Avengers #1 nails what the first issue of a superhero team book: put over the team's mission statement. That is accomplished by simply having the initial roster of this New Avengers team showing what their aim is through big action sequences right away. Read Full Review
Lima and Beredos visuals are the most compelling part of this issue. Humphries delivers a narrative that is stronger on plot than character presentation. Overall New Avengers #1 is a reasonable start to a new series, especially for readers with an otherwise light week. Read Full Review
Humphries' and Lima's New Avengers #1 is a competent yet imperfect first issue. The darker characters don't fully mesh with the over-the-top story Humphries is constructing, but the action and coloring are great. It's too early to tell if the series will reach the same heights as Bendis' definitive run on the title. Nonetheless, the new comic may still have time to shine when more of the roster make their grand appearance. Maybe when the full team is formed, we can finally see what kind of chemistry they will have, potentially enhancing the story. Read Full Review
It hadnt occurred to me until after I read it, but New Avengers is Humphries first Marvel work in a decade (his last being the All-New, All Different Marvel-era Weirdworld) and this one seems to carry the hallmarks of his work Im familiar with (breezy, quick-paced). Tom Limas art here is particularly good, with Humphries script offering lots of weird and even grotesque visuals to convey. (Plus, Bucky and Namor look hot, and thats relevant to me.) I was eager to see some of the team members who have not yet appeared, but it's probably best for them to be introduced more gradually. I'm neither for or against the Natasha/Bucky romance, but more importantly it seems like they have complementary skills as team leaders but also differing m.o.'s, so it should be interesting to watch that play out.
It was cool. Natasha looks beautiful. Barnes is badass. "The" Wolverine cuts a dude's head right in half. Namor gets offended. Surprise villain with bonkers clones of the Illuminati.
Everyone seems poorly characterized, and the continuity doesn't seem to be correct. But for some, like Namor, this is good news. It amused me, and wow, Bucky and Nat at the beginning... it didn't need that much.
Wow, this issue is bad. The villains are clones of the Illuminati. I'm so tired of team books having equally matched teams thrown at them. At least with Space Ghost, we were introduced to each member, and then they teamed up for the finale. That's how you write a story. This is just lazy. Members on the cover aren't even in the book. Why is Carnage a member of the Avengers? That makes zero sense. Black Widow sneaks up on Bucky in the middle of the desert. What? The dialogue is horrible. This is a one-and-done for me. It needed a better writer and they should have stuck closer to the movie team.
