Books of Magic #6

I have been enjoying all the issues of this series that have been released. It's found its place in a shared universe and found ways to provide a memorable story. This wraps up the first story arc. So far, Tim and Dr. Rose have been confined to the school and Tim's neighborhood except for that glorious trip into The Dreaming last month. It has all be prologue to what we can only expect will be trip around the world and into other dimensions. I think that Tim knows Dr. Rose is not totally telling him everything, but what else can he do? I am anxiously waiting for this time next month when I can see what Howard, Fowler and company have in store. If you have not read this yet, get caught up. You have 28 days. Run, don't walk. Officially this is the last chapter of the first story arc of the new Books of Magic. Unofficially, this is a good place to start reading this magical little series before the next "book" starts next month. Kat Howard's story is riveting and is perfectly brought to life by Tom Fowler and Jordan Boyd's artwork. Todd Klein's lettering, as always, is amazing. As this duo work together with such excellent synchronicity, the series gets more vibrant and entertaining with every issue. From the fabulous artwork of Fowler down to the deep character beats of Howard, they both prove yet again they are a creative force to be reckoned with. Read Full Review

I continue to enjoy the Books of Magic more than the other Sandman Universe books and it's one that I can see sticking with the longest at this point, though The Dreaming has picked up as of late. Here, Tim has some good material as he grapples with what happened while he was in the Dreaming and making his own discoveries but there are real choices and costs put before him. Kat Howard gives us a lot to chew on overall with what we get here as there are a lot of wheels in motion and Tom Fowler once more presents a mundane world with just the right hints around the edges to blend it all together really well. But thats it. I have spent a lot of time complaining about one element of the story, and its not that big a deal, really. This is still a good read, better than you might be thinking from the disproportionate amount of time I spent on the one flaw I found. Read Full Review

I think the Dreaming tainted this book. I'm not nearly as into it as I was before. It's not bad yet, but I could see it going that way.
