X-O Manowar #37

X-O Manowar #37 is a satisfying conclusion to the Dead Hand story arc, and what it lacks in making Dead Hand feel like an imposing villain, it more than makes up for by showing the armors are a force to be reckoned with in the universe. Dead Hand'sgoal is made clear and intriguing but the fact armors couldn't be destroyed like that makes this ultimate plan even more questionable. The action is intense, and the hint about seeing other armors in the future is enough to get me excited for what's to come. Read Full Review

What could be found disappointing was the little seen of what happened to the hunters. We know their fate, and that is of course what led to Dead Hand, but for such an event to unfold it could have at least a little more time dedicated to it. If not only to feel some way about the slaughter of the hunters felt like it could have been necessary. Possibly could also be said that with this issue we could have done without what was happening on Earth. Their relevance wasn't all there and took time away from a very good confrontation between Dead Hand and Aric as they argued ethics. Read Full Review

This book is a winner. It's the John Cena of comic books. Say what you will about John Cena, the guy looks strong when he needs to look strong, weak when he needs to look weak but more than anything you can count on him to deliver a Program. All in all, this was a strong closer for Dead Hand that gave us an epic battle which on the downside felt too easy for our heroes. With this issue Dead Hand proved that it is the epic story you would expect when the antagonist is a sentient Death Star. Read Full Review

X-O MANOWAR's latest storyline, "Dead Hand" was solid and the final issue of the storyline was great at setting up possible future stories, but it felt like it went by a little too fast. Venditti still tells a great story here and Bernard, Reber, and Winn do some solid work, for the most part, minus a couple of hiccups along the way. It may not be the best issue of the series, but this was still a lot of fun and I recommend checking this issue out. Read Full Review

The series' latest installment sees the "Dead Hand" arc come to a close in a satisfying manner. With that said, X-O Manowar #37 belongs to art team of Diego Bernard (pencils), Ryan Winn (inks), and Brian Reber (colors). Delivering on the solicitations' promise, this is a action-packed, cosmic adventure as Aric and his "armor army" make a final stand against the Dead Hand protocol in the orbit of Mars. Despite some of the disappointment, X-O Manowar #37 is still another good issue in the series. It's fun to see Aric continue to grow as both a character and a leader. The days of him being one-dimensional are far gone, and seeing him have so much purpose elevates this series. Next month we will see Aric at his wedding, so hopefully we will get a light-hearted issue before the story goes back to a serious direction. Read Full Review

"X-O Manowar" #37 is, at its core, simply another man versus machine story. Venditti has been warning Aric and the readers about the potential threat of the X-O armor, but the true threat seems to be those issuing warnings again and again. Such is the case in this issue. As the fourth of four chapters dedicated to "Dead Hand," this issue seems to close the case rather conveniently, as if daring readers to ask: "Were four issues really necessary?" Light on character development but full of fighting, "X-O Manowar" #37 isn't the most memorable issue of the series, but it has some nice moments -- among those, the three vertical panels that close out the issue. Venditti and Bernard don't deliver a cliffhanger but, with unplayed dramatic music easily imagined to be hanging in the air, they let the reader know that this ending is not as complete as it seems. Overall, this was an action packed issue deserving of the X-O Manowar title. The Valiant team did a great job defending our world from impending doom. This is why more people are reading Valiant now than ever before. Read Full Review

While it is standard superhero fair, the core concept of X-O' is an elegant blend of Iron Man, Captain America with a splash of Thor. A time displaced honourable warrior in a suit of power armour. I love all three of those characters so the simple pick up and read of this appealed to me, the recap at the start was succinct and clear and made me want to pick up the rest of the series, in trade. I like it, Dead Hand was a very exciting and emotional story arc. My only issue in this entry was the pacing, the climax ended a little too abruptly, in retrospect it made Dead Hand seem a little less dangerous than we thought. I like the falling action with the other armors and I hope this isn't the last we've heard of them.
