And Zub's story has a twist that further expands upon the original lore of Howard's Conan in a way that will be familiar to regular readers of his work and this series. As for newcomers, this is a wonderful introduction to Conan as a character, the deeper themes of civilization versus barbarism that Howard loved to explore, and a rousing adventure comic to boot. Like its hero, CONAN THE BARBARIAN #25 is battered but unbowed. A triumphant spectacle that raises a goblet to legacy and dares myth to swing back. If this is what barbarism at fifty looks like, civilization never stood a chance. The king endures, the legend grows, and any reader with a taste for sword-and-soul is left only wanting more. I didn't like this issue as much as the previous one. It was a sharp departure from the previous stories. This was a one-shot, and I appreciate that, but the conclusion didn't live up to the build-up that occurred throughout the issue. I was a bit disappointed by the overall story. The artwork is fantastic, but the story is very disappointing, especially considering the expanded page-count, amounting to little more than a whistle-stop tour of Conan's greatest hits - a wasted opportunity to tell a substantial done-in-one King Conan tale.
