Wolverine #8

So about those two wolves... Wolverine #8 is a cleverly crafted 36-page setup piece that will not feed the standard '90s nostalgia wolf inside a lot of Wolverine fans (of a certain age lol) in the way that you think it will. This isn't some claws slashing, guns blazing mindless throwdown action piece, but a cleverly crafted thriller of a story that adroitly uses multiple past storylines, new ideas AND nostalgia to set up a smart, well thought out modern Wolverine action mystery that is always conscious of the past, as well as the new status quo and that's the wolf this story feeds. There are battles" but not gutsy, balls to the wall, savagery. Readers will get some black-ops, covert action with some minor cameo action sequences that will be just enough to wet your whistle. However, what we do get is fun, quick, and intriguing. Read Full Review

Bogdanovic and Kubert deliver some beautiful art in this issue. While the story is subdued, the art does a great job of contrasting between the big action of the flashbacks and the quiet of the present. Read Full Review

Wolverine #8 starts on a huge high but kind of goes down from there. That said, it's not a bad book, far from it. Percy can't write a bad Wolverine book, and this one is still pretty good, even if the prologue overshadows everything else. The story it sets up seems pretty interesting, and it will be nice to see what comes next. The art team does a fantastic job, with Wilson's coloring being a standout. For an anniversary issue, Wolverine #8 feels pretty average as far as issues. It's a good issue and a good starting point for readers but this isn't one that really celebrates anything. It seems to do that by just telling a solid and entertaining story. Read Full Review

Wolverine #8 does enough to honor the character's legacy and remind us why we love him. It also sets up a new story arc that ties into different aspects of the character's past, which tends to be the most interesting way to use the character. This issue does have a lot more buildup than one might expect, especially for a milestone issue, which squanders the extra pages in a sense, but it should get folks excited for what is to come. Overall this anniversary issue sees the Wolverine step into somewhat of a Bond theme. Will we get "I'm Howlett, James Howlett." Or would that be too far? Eitherway it's a fun direction to take the book and I'm all for it. Read Full Review

Personally, I was given a very balanced number, Logan facing his demons from the past, there is drama, action and the charming personality that characterizes him and we love for that.

I loved this! Both art and writing are an easy 10 In my opinion. Benjamin Percy is doing such a terrific job writing Wolverine in this and xforce. Adam kubert is the best Wolverine artist so anytime I see his name on a book I know it’ll be great. I can’t wait to see what happens next

FINALLY Ben Percy can focus on the previous storylines and put Wolverine on the track of the numerous threats to Krakoa. Still love the atmosphere and Kubert's art.

This was a good read overall, but I really would have liked Kubert's art throughout the entirety of this. For whatever reason, Bogdanovic's art just didn't hit like it has previously in this series. As for Percy's story, it was good. I think it could have been structured and/or paced better, but it was far from a bad book. I especially liked the prologue story.

Wolverine gets back to X-Force business, with personal spy-history rising up to influence his next steps. It's a smooth evolution of his status quo and it sinks plenty of promising plot hooks. This oversized anniversary serving is a little bit indulgent, though. It spreads out so wide that it gets difficult to prioritize all the ongoing storylines. Icy writing and sharp art smooth the reading experience and demonstrate considerable storytelling skill.

In the prime story, a team of highly trained mercenaries raid a government facility leaving no survivors in their efforts to claim items from Wolverine’s past involvement on Team X. Blood recovered from the scene is revealed as belonging to a mutant and leads X-Force to assume Wolverine’s former teammate, Maverick, to have led the assault. Discovering the existence of the Legacy House, an auction related to heroes and villains, Wolverine dons his Patch identity to infiltrate its doors. I’ve always liked Maverick so I’m excited for this arc. Hopefully the end result is bringing him to Krakoa, as he’d be a great inclusion into X-Force. The prologue could have been given it's own issue and would have been more fitting for this anniversary title. I don't feel too good about Wolverine enlisting his kin to help him with Omega Red. It made Wolverine look weak , and anniversary issues are not the place to do that to a flagship character. Plus , why is X-23 aged down? Is that another clone ? One of Laura's "All-New Wolverine" sisters ? I barely started picking up New Mutants , that shit had me lost. For X-titles this week, the main one was a better read on all tiers, this was backburner, and that is sad to say especially on a special issue dedicated to a legend. Out of all the guests for side stories that Marvel loves to pull out it's ass for events like this , the prolo gue would have been the perfect segue , and I would have loved it. The return of Patch could have waited until next issue. The ball was dropped here and the Marvel Universe heard it. more
