Uncanny X-Men #541

Great action sequences that really show how unstoppable the Juggernaut is. Let's hope the action, excitement, and great storytelling continues. I'm just upset that this will be the last story arc before the completely unnecessary reboot coming in November. Read Full Review

Tie-in issues are normally to be dreaded, but Gillen and Land are following the trend of "Fear Itself" tie-ins in general, by making it fun. Don't let that logo scare you off, regular readers. Read Full Review

Pretty good. Gillen gets a lot of X-Men into action against an old-time X-enemy and he doesn't even resort to using any hairy Canadian heroes! Too bad that we still have Greg Land drawing this series. People who care about art less would probably give this a higher grade. Read Full Review

Overall, Fear Itself feels more like Filler Itself, which it actually is for X-readers who are anxiously anticipating the unfolding of the rest of SCHISM. Uncanny X-Men #541 fills the x-fans need for near weekly mutant action, but this chapter doesnt do much for the team thematically this time. Aside from some cool power displays, theres not much. Sometimes though, in the middle of the sweltering summer heat, a cool, throwaway, power showing off story fills the bill, and the time before the falls big Uncanny X-Men re-launch and things really get going again. Well, I can't really say much besides this issue is a set-up for a potential deeper problem that will be explored in issues to come. As much as I don't like "set up" issues where little to nothing happens, they're necessary. Gillen does a good job at making the Juggernaut threat seem serious, and that's just what it is.
