It's a collection of cool scenes that run smoothly at a brisk pace, but the "big picture" plot development leaves something to be desired. It doesn't dig particularly deep into any of its characters, either. Perhaps the big Warlock reveal was too heavily foreshadowed; I get the sense that the author wanted it to be a bigger surprise. It's still fun and stylishly drawn; I'm hoping that it reads a little better as part of the complete series than it does by itself. At least the Dagger scene from #2 makes sense now.

Nightcrawler can absolutely get it. Unfortunately, the big "reveal" at the end was pretty obvious from earlier shots of Vulture with Warlock's techno-organic patterns all over him. Fortunately, this was still pretty fun. I like the little budding romance between Kurt and Silver Sable. I also like the exploration of Kurt's guilt over what he was made to do.

Perhaps I spoke too soon when I said "we are so back" in my review of the first issue. I really enjoyed that one, but we haven't gotten anything meeting that standard since, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the previous issue and this one, but it's continued to drop in quality for me. I'm not super into the romantic story with Silver Sable, but I did enjoy the stuff with Vulture and Nimrod. I am interested by the Vulture/Warlock hybrid of sorts seen at the end of this issue, so hopefully this is just a minor bump in the road.

I feel so icky reading and seeing horny Kurt do the dirty with an equally horny (and one-note) Silver Sable. It’s also quite jarring to see Mystique wallowing around like the beggar woman in Sweeney Todd. It’s a really off-utting packaging for an interesting development in the new techno-virus adjacent weapons used by Orchis. I would hope this could be done in a way that doesn’t continue to degrade female characters at the expense of making Kurt look like an enigmatic himbo, yet alas, here we are. I want to like this book for the story, but the execution is keeping me from enjoying it.
