Unbreakable X-Men #2

Gambit's love of Rogue helped him build a loving, supportive community for Mutants in Haven House. After his despair made the home a tomb, the Outliers went their separate ways. While survivor's guilt made Gambit want to die, Shuvahraks loss drove her to make others feel her pain. Dwelling on her loss fed her anger until that was all she knew. Feeling betrayed by the Mutant community for not protecting her child, Shuvahrak arises in a land created by Revelations betrayal of the Mutant communitys ideals in Unbreakable X-Men #2. The main strength of this issue is how it portrays a broken man who has lost the person who he loves with all his heart, but yet continues to live for the people who depend on him the most. Gail Simone effectively explores the theme of grief with one of the X-Men's most beloved couples in a way that deeply humanizes Gambit, making him an empathetic character that readers can sympathize with and relate to. Unbreakable X-Men #2 is a classic set-up issue that gathers more characters and provides context to the big bad of the storyline, the Voice of DarknessShuvahrak. With an enormous art team that brings even bigger talent to the page and a writer who, so far, doesnt waste the readers time, Unbreakable X-Men continues to be a story worth collecting. The two issues so far have very little breathing room between action scenes and lengthy exposition, which some readers may find overwhelming at first. My recommendation: if you picked up last months Unbreakable X-Men #1 and were interested in seeing where the story goes, then I recommend adding issue #2 to your collection. Alternatively, for my Gambit fans, Unbreakable X-Men continues to be one of his better characterizations in recent memory. Read Full Review

The story is easier to follow this time, but I can't help but wonder if anyone is even interested in the whole Miss Henrietta storyline. The art is quite dull (not Werneck, but C.F. Villa), with a lot of empty space, although the design for Asnawushka... Acopetzlka... Anatevka (whatever that giant snake woman is called) is pretty great.
