It's hard to believe that Ultimates 2 #100 is the last of this series, but one heck of a number to end it on if you ask me. A book like this you don't get everyday. I feel proud to have seen this series of stories evolve from Mighty Avengers (kind of different but a stepping stone for many of these characters), to Ultimates, to Ultimates 2. When we didn't have Fantastic Four, we had Ultimates to take us to infinity and beyond. In Ultimates2 #100, Al Ewing ties his team of Ultimates in with the original Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch in a non-awkward way and also paves the way for any alternate universe characters to return after the events of Secret Wars. Once again, he shows a rare talent for combining epic, high level plotting with characters (Including Galactus), who have genuine emotional arcs. From start to end I have enjoyed this series thoroughly. to see it end is a shame, but it no doubt will lead to more great works by Al Ewing. anyone interested in Marvel Cosmic should read this series and enjoy its quirky scope.

I am equal parts sad and delighted by this issue. An exciting read from the first page to the last. I am depressed that a story with so much more to tell is ending, I give it an 11!

Definitely the best book Marvel has right now, the cosmic scope is handled incredibly well, it´s a shame this is the last issue.

ULTIMATES2 #100 was an excellent, thoroughly original and surprisingly surprising conclusion to one of Marvel's best books in recent memory. Honestly, the biggest, most pleasant surprise (for me, at least) was something that did NOT happen rather than something that did (I'll avoid spoilers here but if you don't know what I'm alluding to, the non-event is mentioned by Mr. Ewing in his afterword for the issue). I've sung the praises of Al Ewing in other reviews on this very site so I won't bore you by repeating the same things I've said many times before...with one exception: If ULTIMATES2 (and its predecessor, ULTIMATES) have not convinced the decision-makers at Marvel that Al Ewing needs to write a new FANTASTIC FOUR title, nothing will. SECOND READING AMENDMENT (09/02/17): On a second read, ULTIMATES #100 was even better . I couldn't ask for a a more satisfying conclusion to this sprawling tale that started with the transformation of Galactus (and made me an actual fan of the character for the first time in 30 years). THE ULTIMATES are why, as an adult, I continue to read "superhero" comics. I'm looking forward to, inevitably,rereading the whole twenty-two issue epic without monthly interruptions. SCORE: 9.2 more

"The Ultimates" has come to an end. But while it ran, this has been one of Marvel's most original, most interesting series. The story of the "Cosmic Avengers" has had a look unlike any other book, thanks to Kenneth Rocafort and now Travel Foreman. It's too bad it's ending, but it goes out on a high note, a powerful, optimistic, life-affirming conclusion. This is, and has been, a pretty great book.

I wasn’t a fan of Ewing’s Mighty Avengers. Ewing’s Captain America and the Mighty Avengers wasn’t for me. I didn’t like Ewing’s New Avengers. U.S.Avengers by Al Ewing sucked. I couldn’t even finish Ewing’s Royals and Loki: Agent of Asgard. So my expectations weren’t very high when Al Ewing started his Ultimates run but wow he knocked it out of the park. It was totally different than the rest of his comics. Ultimates and Ultimates 2 are like a mixture of Jim Starlin and Jonathan Hickman stories. By no means, though, was these two series as good as Hickman’s or Starlin’s work but it was still fantastic nonetheless. Al Ewing’s respect for continuity was always my favorite quality about him, and I always looked forward t o his additional reading section in the letters page after every issue. I loved the 100th of New Ultimates vs Old Ultimates and my main complaint was that the original Ultimates are alive again. After failing to write the Maker in hos New Avengers run, Ewing tries again in this series when Maker teams up with the High Evolutionary and it was a major success. I loved Galactus’ journey throughout the whole run and I’m interested to see where he goes next more

In the end, Ewing's Ultimates had a solid payoff, and makes room for itself amongst the Marvel cosmic storylines. I felt some plot points in the last couple of issues seemed rushed, but this could have been Marvel's push for Ewing's story to end with issue #100. Overall a good ending to this story.

In the final victory over the First Firmament, the Ultimates and Galactus all get satisfying roles to play. There are a fair few surprise guests stepping up, too, and this issue is practically bursting at the seams with cool cosmic ideas. That strength is also a weakness, and the comic suffers from a bit of a human interest shortage. Travel Foreman's art stays in my negative column right to the end; his dreadful treatment of human-scale figures (particularly America Chavez) simply doesn't work for me.
