Comic Book Resources - Chad Nevett
Nov 27, 2011As a tie-in to what's happening in "The Ultimates," "Ultimate Hawkeye" effectively expands upon a subplot and gives it the necessary room to be its own story, but, as a story centered around Hawkeye, it's less effective. On the whole, though, this series, and this issue in particular, has showed off Jonathan Hickman's strengths at creating interesting, thoughtful characters and situations. What he does with the Celestials and Eternals going forward is an exciting question to think about. Read Full Review

A Comic Book Blog - Geoff Arbuckle
Nov 28, 2011After it's all said and done, I do understand this story much better, but I still found this miniseries tough and cumbersome to get through. As a trade, it might flow better, but on a monthly basis, it just struggled to meet expectations. And that's just a shame when I think about what Jonathan Hickman is capable of. Read Full Review

Nov 26, 2011Ugh. This sucked. I've got to say, in many ways Jonathan Hickman is very much like Grant Morrison... And I don't mean that as a compliment. Morrison has a habit of writing over the heads of his readers, and I can see that Hickman tends to do the same. I mean really, Xorn and Zorn, floating cities and mutant serums, and Eternals, Celestials and Deviants? Really? What ever happened to the days of straightforward storytelling? I hate the whole Eternal, Deviant, Celestial thing in the regular 616 Marvel U, and while Hickman gave it a slightly clever twist(and eliminated the giant space gods), it's not something the Ultimate Marvel Universe needed, at least in my opinion. The bottom line here is that I am glad this mini is over, because while I'll always support Hawkeye regardless of the universe, I'm happy I don't have to read anymore issue of this mini. Somewhere deep down a good comic was in Ultimate Hawkeye, but it just tried to do too much and too little at the same time, if that makes sense. Just doesn't feel like a Hawkeye comic, and he doesn't even do much in this series anyway. Unnecessary miniseries that could've taken up half an issu in Hickman's Ultimates series

I'm really dissapointed with this conclusion. I don't even know how to explain my feelings... This ultimate eternals/celestials/deviants lore is shit here. Plus I really didn't understand why Hickman remembered Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk... Nah, it's just boring and dumb. At least the art is fine.
