o The founding of the Strange Academy came with some gigantic risks. So far the students and teachers haven't felt the sting of those risks. That changes this issue.
o Something horrible is bubbling up in the bayous outside New Orleans and the students of Strange Academy are going to have to wade in and uncover an evil that they are not ready to handle.

But Why Tho? - Charles Hartford

So to sum it up, I really enjoyed Strange Academy #5. It has lots of heart and adventure as the kids set out to find their missing peers. I look forward to seeing if they are able to succeed in their endeavor. Read Full Review

Humberto Ramos perfectly captures the pace, energy and style of the story with the art. The tone of the imagery is perfect and there are some great character moments as well as great backgrounds and panel progression Read Full Review

We are nearing the end of the first volume of this story and I'm already willing to check out with no regrets, Skottie Young has sprinkled some bread crumbs for our characters to follow in regards to the administration of the Academy which I would love to explore, but Skottie Young just doesn't seem to like the Strange Academy that he created. All in all, the plot's progressed significantly, it's just spread too thin amongst our dozen protagonists as the title powers forward. Read Full Review

YAY!! I finally digested Issue #5 and I am always amazed what FUN this saga is! Best issue yet. For action it is very exciting how they have been building to the big battle sequence expected in Issue #6 next month (12/9/20). SPOILER ALERT!! Read more at your own peril! After the way Miss Hazel treated Emily Bright and Doyle Dormammu back in Issue #3, I almost believe she is getting what she deserves with a piece of Doyle trapped within her. Perhaps this will save Doyle later? I already posted covers for issues #6 and #7 so we do have what many review critics claimed was no "overarching story." Doctor Voodoo did promise assistance for Ms. Hazel so hopefully her visions will be sorted soon. The argument between Dr. Strange and Doctor more

The kid's first battle and of course, it's more difficult than they thought.

This was a slightly weaker issue, but still fun. Not bad by any means.

The other students realize Calvin is missing. According to the laws of "adventure school" stories, they shout down the option of going to the teachers and instead launch their own rescue mission -- which, of course, rapidly runs into trouble. I still like these kids, but this plotline is simplistic and the storytelling is getting less impressive. The art's good, but not as great as it started off. Some of the dialogue is clumsy and the Strange-Voodoo conversation is out-and-out bad. I hope this is just a transitory blip!

I was not a fan of this issue. It felt poorly paced, and I was not very engaged.

Oh no, not... Calvin? So glad that we're finally addressing all that tension between... Emily and... Doyle?? Genuinely who are these people ugh.
