Feb 08, 2017It's hard to resist reading Doctor Aphra due to its important connections to the Star Wars canon, but also its sense of adventure. It may lack the relationship development required to understand Aphra and her dad, but it's a lot of fun. This is Indiana Jones meets Star Wars, and fans shouldn't miss it. Read Full Review

Feb 17, 2017Its safe to say that I have high expectations for this series. Although I am unsure about the main plotline, I have faith in Gillens ability to write Star Wars after his Darth Vader run. I would recommend jumping on Doctor Aphra as soon as possible, considering the series is quite young. I would temper my expectations, but hey it is Star Wars after all. Read Full Review

Feb 11, 2017A enjoyable action issue, with a new setting discovered and a villain getting some motivation. Some stronger colors and sounds would have punched it up immeasurably. Read Full Review

Feb 11, 2017Doctor Aphra has the whole galaxy ahead of it and in Kieron Gillen I trust, especially after his Darth Vader run. This is by no means a bad book but it's a transitional piece more focused on the action than the story. There are some great visual moments, and I love any use of some AT-ATs since it expands their role and scope in the franchise, and some good character bits with my favorite murderbots. I'm also hoping for more Tolvan as the comics franchise really needs some engaging opponents to work with over the long term. Walker and Deering make this fun issue because of their approach and style but even with what they do it's just kind of a middling piece overall. Read Full Review

Sep 30, 2020The latest Aphra tale ends with a set up to a seemingly grand conclusion. With only two issues to go, its all down hill from here. In this case, downhill is more like a rollercoaster speeding to a rewarding chaos. If past history is any indication, Tagge and his cronies had better beware. Trapped in a corner is where Doctor Aphra does all her best work. Read Full Review
