Going through this story at the same time that the character has now met his final fate in Rebels is an interesting contrast in itself. Cullen Bunn is doing a solid job here, though i continue to feel like this is going to click better as a whole rather than with individual chapters. There are a lot of curious pieces and I love the overall expansion with the seedy side of the galaxy and how Maul fits into these areas and I also quite enjoy the arrival of Sing and Bane, even if it just feels too overt in some ways. While I like the inclusion of known characters part of me really wishes for more original and new creations to be seeded to truly expand the universe. It's a solid book with great artwork that has me keen to see what's still in store. Read Full Review

Aside from the appearance of a pair of familiar faces, Darth Maul #2 gives us more of Maul's inner thoughts as the series leads to his eventual face-to-face confrontation with Kaitis. Darth Maul continues to be a disappointing addition to Marvel's Star Wars lineup. It mostly ignores the more unique aspects of the villain's background in favor of telling a safe, bland story about his pre-Episode I exploits. It is extremely impressive how many references this issue makes to other stories without it being distracting. Maul hires Cad Bane, a fan favourite character from The Clone Wars that I was very excited to see. In his mediation we see flashbacks to the Malachor temple shown in the epic season two finale of Star Wars rebels. And the bartender on Nar Shaddaa is shown training his son, who appears to be the bartender shown in the second arc of Jason Aaron's Star Wars. Even with all these cool refences it managed to tell a good story, so this is perfect for a Star Wars fan like me.

I really enjoy the conflict that continues to go on in Maul's mind and obviously the teaming up with the bounty hunters will add an interesting supporting cast to this comic. I enjoy reading about all his rage and his reasons for hating the Jedi. Any comic that has Palpatine in it is pretty much a winner in my books.
