She-Hulk #8

It may be DC's loss now that Soule has been taken off the market, but comics like this prove that Marvel has made the right move. Soule has a sense of character, of pacing, of humor, and it all comes together so well in She-Hulk. Now that Soule's workload might go down to just four monthlies, I think this might be the beginning of the career of the next big Marvel writer. Read Full Review

If last issue was a delightful return to form, this one is the book settling back in for the long-haul. Its the first in an ongoing arc and Jenns back in full-time lawyer-mode, which is what this book does best. The book definitely has serious moments and takes its subject matter with the sincerity it so richly deserves, we get still more shorthand examples of the kind of person Cap is, even without his powers, but it never loses sight of making the reader smile nor having fun with its core cast. There's an Andy Warhol pop-art feel to Marvel's She-Hulk, akin to Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye and G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel. The House of Ideas has developed this motif in recent years (see Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie's Young Avengers and Peter Milligan and Mike Allred's forerunner X-Statix) setting it apart from the dark and brooding DC titles currently on offer. Creators have been rewarded with Eisner Awards (David Aja, Best Cover Artist x2 and Best Penciller 2013, Hawkeye #11 Best Single Issue) and, hopefully, sales. DC take note. Read Full Review

I've liked Pulido on art since the beginning, and he just keeps growing on me more and more. His style might not be for everybody, but I think he's doing a fine job. Even though the style is very weird, this still feels like a grounded, human comic. That can be chalked up to Soule's writing. His internal knowledge of the legal world is a boon for this series. These kinds of law stories usually end the same manor: the misunderstanding is cleared up or a mistake is eventually redeemed. She-Hulk #8 is powerful for what the story is, but how it's told. And it's done in a way that paints a big goofy smile on my face. Highly recommended Read Full Review

"She-Hulk" #8 is a smooth, very enjoyable opening to a new story arc. This particular creative team is still gelling together beautifully, so one hopes that along with Patsy and Angie, they'll be on the Jen team, so to speak, for a good long stretch. Read Full Review
