You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff
Sep 08, 2022As nice as it is to see things develop the way that theyre developing in Rowells series, it would also be nice to see some legitimate action contrasting against all of the taut nuance that Rowell is so good with. The best writers and artists who have worked with Jen over the years have done so in a way that balances her normal life against her superhuman one in a way that feels fresh and distinct. This book is weird, still don't know where this is going but I actually like the corny, grounded, telenovela-like approach, I just wish it was a little more nuanced. Maybe in the coming issues it will get there since the payoff to the Jennifer-Jack story finnaly arrived.

Turns out there's an upside to taking things very slow: When stuff *does* start developing (and you hold on to all the heart, wit, and charm you've developed), it can be just brilliant. This issue moves both Jen and Jack forward, and if the steps aren't huge or surprising, they are incredibly satisfying.

Best issue of the series so far. It feels like it's finally found a voice, using it's setting and cast of characters to give us something that's been missing from Marvel for a while now. Down to earth drama! She-Hulk #6's got heartfelt moments, funny moments, relatable moments, and some really silly moments that make it enjoyable. It's got an entirely different feel to any of the series that came before it but I really loved this issue. I hope it keeps this momentum up. Also, I NEED that heart sweater.

The first couple sections of this were good. First, we had Jen and Patsy have Eat Cake in Fancy Dresses Wednesday, which is something I'd already like to see revisited some time in this run. Plus, we had Nightcrawler straight-up ask Jen to legally represent all of mutantkind, which does great for her job and the business as a whole. While the latter was a good (possible) setup for the future of this title, the stuff with Jack is the culmination of the romantic tension that's been brewing between them for a bit now. Their conversations have always been a joy to read in this title, and this was no different. Plus, the final few pages where they finally embrace and end up going to the bedroom were done very well, in my opinion. Just really goo more

I'm probably going to continue to drop my score with each issue. This is not a She-Hulk comic, it's not even a superhero comic. It's a romance comic. I don't buy marvel comics for the romance. It's fine if there's relationships woven into the stories, but not the main focus and that's what this is. I'm not sure how long this writer will be on this book, but I'm going to go to 12 and if she's not gone by then or if she hasn't turned this back into a superhero book, then I'm probably going to drop it.
