Shang Chi #5 by Gene Luen Yang ensnared me with the hardcore bullet scene and kept me wanting more throughout the issue. Shang-Chi is trying to take a negative (his fathers organization) and turn it into a positive. I am interested to see how this will end. Overall, I would recommend anyone reads this issue. Another super fun entry into Yang's new run. Absolutely loving the idea of what it would be like if Shang-Chi went up against some of Marvel's greatest heroes.

Somehow missed this one, but it's pretty good. I think this model of different heroes fighting Shang-Chi each issue might be good for sales, but it really makes it hard for the reader to become engaged with the actual main characters in this book. It is for me, anyway.

The stories are good, the art is fantastic, and I love the theme of sticking with your family but at this point we’re five issues in and have yet to see anything new.

Shang-Chi's encounter with Iron Man is mainly a classic misunderstanding brawl. The long-term plot is advancing (slowly, though) and the art is still nice. I didn't much care for the short-term action this time around. This issue took at least two swings at "Man, Shang-Chi is a badass!" moments, neither of which worked for me. I'm still hooked on seeing how the long-term story plays out, though.
