Jul 26, 2017If Secret Empire can deliver on bringing its separate narrative threads together, it might end up being a satisfactory event. Multiple artists are really bringing down the flow of these issues but it's really Sorrentino that's the worst fit. Even the big moment at the end is a swing and a miss because Sorrentino doesn't thrive with those big iconic splashes. But credit to Nick Spencer for at least removing some of the inevitability that was creeping in. Events are fun when you don't feel like you know the ending! At this point, there is no reason to keep hope alive for this big event turning into anything that will be considered a quality story years from now. Wooooow those Sorrentino action pages are gorgeous. The Carter and Capt. page is gorgeous and the Black Widow's last panel is so beautiful and tragic. The story was super strong. It is time to be ramping down and you see that things are in motion for that. You just don't know what is up with those dream sequence story line. But I'm sure it'll be explained soon. Just an awesome story with a twist that is leaving everyone hungry for more.

Strong issue. That Punisher Vs Widow scene was fantastic both visually and how it was told. Punisher never felt so alive and Black Widow despite her lack of interesting lines has been great this series. ending was great. Love the art. Still wish Evil Cap would go full evil..like intentionally kill her not all accidentally with a side of guilt. Personal feelings aside this is hands down one of the best issues in this series so far.

The story is still very much intriguing but as the narrative shifts, some things didn't help me stay well immersed. I probably just expected more because i was enjoying it immensely. Still very much worth the buy because of all the interesting things that do happen.

Some of the action scenes were really hard to follow. The art is hit or miss in this series and this issue is more of a miss. I did like the story though. This event has been long. It hasn't felt dragging to me yet. It looks like this is the turning point though in the story. I am really excited to see how everything ends. Great that Miles is a big part of this.

Good build up and steady pace that excites us, however the death that was used feels very wrong at a time when said person's own comic has been excellent. If said person is dead for good Marvel have just killed one of their best characters for a not good enough reason (I would rather have said person's comic renewed than crossover events).

Stevil and Miles have the showdown that's been coming since Civil War II. There is a heartbreaking surprise death here, but the good news is that the balance of hope swings to the good guys for the first time since the start of the event. The core fight scenes and the last-page surprise are raise-the-roof magnificent. Nick Spencer's script is formidable throughout; when he's not throwing amazing twists into the plot, he's doing stellar characterization and thereby correcting a lot of CW2 mistakes. There really aren't a lot of places (with the solitary exception of the Punisher scene) where the writing could be improved. The same cannot be said for Andrea Sorrentino's art. Another issue of "Secret Empire," and a whole bunch of stuff going on. The plot is building up, and it's getting more exciting, but I still have trouble with the series initial premise. Sorrentino's pages look great, but his action scenes can be a little confusing. Not great, but pretty good.

I'm actually really liking this story, it really feels like one of those classic Elseworlds stories that DC used to publish. Although this is in continuity and I'm really curious about how this will play out in the future and how they'll redeem Steve Rogers. It's rare I feel excited or anxious while reading, but this issue got me. The writing definitely made the issue for me. That being said, most of the art in this issue was rough. There are some interesting page layouts, but Sorrentino's work is frankly ugly and the action is often hard to follow. The flashback and "the other Steve" sections were decent but I miss having A-line talent on an event book. It's the only thing keeping me from giving this a better score.

This issue is worse than the last one IMO. I was enjoying this until about 2/3 in and then everything with miles ruins the book for me. It made no sense to me. You have a chance to kill hitler you kill him and that ruined the book for me. The fight scene between widow and punished was great.

A little better than the last issue but still not great. At the very least, more moments of significance happen in this issue but we should have been at this moment a few issues sooner. There's a particular moment that is such a generic event trope that it wasn't even shocking or upsetting. At least this is better than Civil War II.

This was so bad. Widow got killed like an animal. Punisher working for HYDRA, unreadable fighting scenes (more particularly Frank vs. Nat) Captain America would not let Spidey beat him just like that, seeing Cap's shield break is not shocking anymore, Nadia says "The entire time she has been trying to prevent you from becoming a killer" even though she recreated the Red Room (and the Champions didn't know that Miles was trapped so how would Nadia know Nat has been keeping him inside), also Miles guesses the password because it was destiny, but he doesn't kill Cap? This is a mess. Making Sam Wilson return makes as much sense since he had zero impact as Cap. Oh! And turning Carol into Tony was always a mistake. What you need to make her is Ca more
