Horror DNA - James Ferguson
Feb 13, 2020While the fight scenes are top notch and there's some great action horror moments, Scream: Curse of Carnage hits on a few different scary elements. Writer Clay McLeod Chapman is working on several levels of terror, hitting the more traditional as well as psychological aspects to make this an all-round great comic. You might come for the symbiote-on-monster battle, but stay for the unsettling violations of the mind. Although it has Carnage in its title and it definitely spun out of that big event, Scream: Curse of Carnage stands on its own as a solid book. Read Full Review

Jan 30, 2020Scream: Curse of Carnage is both an entertaining follow-up to Absolute Carnage and addendum for Venom. It manages to tell its own story while still staying within the circle of stories, developments, and twists that the two aforementioned books have set up. This issue suggests that Andi's past life and familial longing are going to continue to get put into play as this story rolls on. At least I hope so. Between little teases of Andi's life before becoming Scream (or Mania or Hell-powered…) and her changing relationship with the Scream symbiote, and the menace of Mother and her kin, this reader is still singing this book's praises! Comics: The Gathering - Nick Devonald
Jan 29, 2020Chapman has managed to bring some brand new aspects of symbiote mythology into play, while still managing to keep it feeling faithful to everything that’s come before. There are still lots of mysteries waiting to unfold and I have no idea where most of it’s going but I’m excited to find out. With Brown & Mooneyham on art it’s guaranteed, wherever the story goes, to be a real stand out in the horror genre. Read Full Review

I don't have much to say. I like symbiotes. I like this. I am kind of concerned over potential contradictions between this and what Donny Cates is doing regarding Knull , but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Scream takes the fight to Grendel's Mother and it does not go well for her or Andi. I admire this comic a great deal without glossing over its flaws. The art is very scruffy at points, and the Olde Englishe at the start is grating. But the mythology is fascinating. This issue makes the Beowulf connections clear and compelling, and Andi's addition of Rapunzel tropes is terrific. The visuals have some great highlights and make inventive use of the ideas delivered by the script.
