Scarlet Witch #2

Seriously. Buy this issue. If youre a fan of art, especially that breaks away from the typical square panel and muscles world of cape comics, youll love this series. Theres much experimentation throughout each page, and it works well for a series that focuses on mysticism. Wanda talks to a god, fights a minotaur, winds up where she started - it's mostly uninteresting, frankly. But this issue is so gorgeously drawn that it's at least worth a flip through just to appreciate Marco Rudy's talents. Read Full Review

EYE CANDY TO THE MAX. Rudy does a great job of making it a labyrinth. Seriously just a stunningly beautiful issue.

WOW! What an improvement in art. The art matches the setting and character perfectly. The story itself also wasn't as bad and was pretty entertaining. This series definetly has potential and a can't wait to see how it goes.

This issue deserves to be picked up solely for its amazing art. It has a beutiful, painted quality that isn't afraid to toss out normal comic panel conventions. While this often results in a page that is hard to follow, the art here remains readable. The story, while packing a great opening and solid climax, feels a little on the slight side. Sometimes dialogue feels repetitive, and goes on for too long, but the great monster and brilliant art keep the issue together. Slight more troublesome is the reveal of a villain who boils down to Irish McIrishman, but hopefully that will be resolved

Rudy's art is beautiful, but his layouts do not seem to be designed with readability in mind. Rudy's pages feel very fluid, but the path the eye is lead on rarely seemed related to the order in which things should be read. This was a big problem for me during the long, banal conversation between Wanda and Hekate. Rudy's reluctance to use gutters led to a number of places where elements from one page nearly aligned with elements on the opposite page, which meant my eye kept being drawn onto the next page prematurely. Or worse, abruptly dead-ending in the fold, because something looked as if it should carry over onto the facing page, but clearly didn't. I spent way too long trying to figure out I was missing half of a double page spread or not. I understand the intention might have been to invoke a labyrinthine feel, but none of this effectively did that, nor did it serve the (pretty straightforward) story. As for the story, time would have been better spent on the Minotaur/Man-Bull instead of listening to Hekate say she doesn't really do witchcraft any more for the third time in as many pages. That was boring, and her state at the end of the episode simply shows how pointless it all was. The mostly one-sided conversation during the fight scene and the absence of small, fiddly reaction panels meant Man-Bull featured in the least confusing page layouts in the issue. more
