Royals #5

Where many of Marvel's current titles are attempting recapture the excitement of fans through nostalgic methods by revisiting old themes and characters, Royals diverges and does the contrary by moving forward and exploring new terrain that Ewing proposes will having major and lasting influence on Marvel throughout continuity for more than just the Inhumans. I would invite those invested in the franchise overall and interested in those ramifications to begin paying attention to Royals as consequences are said to have a long reaching effect that may well play into your favorite comic book. This is a pretty decent comic. I can recommend it. However, that is not really the same as saying you definitely should read it. If the Inhumans are your jam, go for it. Youll likely really enjoy it. If you have no interest in the Inhumans, well, youre probably not paying attention to the title anyway, not that I can blame you for that. Read Full Review

I haven't been sold on this comic thus far, but this is probably the strongest issue. It might be a comic that grows on me. It feels like Ewing's writing is a bit more focused in this book, which isn't a bad thing after the ambitious but all-over-the-shop writing on New Avengers and Ultimates.

After defusing their confrontation with Ronan, the Inhumans turn to hardcore continuity tweaking. Marvel Boy gifts Ronan a new Supreme Intelligence and as a byproduct, we get an awesome new layer of cosmic mythology that paints the Kree as an engineered race just like their offspring. Primagen and Progenitors and the mysteries of the Skyspears ahoy! Thony Silas's art does a fine job. His anatomy might still be a little sketchy but he does impressive layout work in this issue, and Al Ewing contributes one of his better scripts.

Really enjoying the artwork. Glad to see Ronan and Crystal's relationship explored deeper. But the story itself just hasn't grabbed me. Maybe there will be more payoff towards the end of this story arc. But for now, it's a forgettable read for me compared to other series on my pull list.
