Punisher #222

The situation has been ratcheted to the next level with a nuclear weapon in play. Punisher is trying to save the day and win or lose I've enjoyed this story immensely since I began. This is one of my favorite stories out right now and it keeps getting better from the last issue. This is probably my favorite of this arc and I eagerly await the next. Even with the amp taking control Frank is still in his element with chaos and war around him. We'll see what happens with this nuke in the next issue. Read Full Review

Guiu Vilanova and Lee Loughridge are part of the success of this issue. Great dynamic panels, great action scenes almost in a cinematic way. The tone set by the art team is great and in the first issues I had some problems with the art of Guiu, especially in the design of the armor, but not anymore. Guiu is becoming a favorite. Petrov goes from threatening to launch to actually launching his nuke. Of course Frank can't stop that until the big climax in the next issue; he devotes this one to creatively massacring some more of Fury's rogue SHIELD goons. While it's not the strategic direction I would pick, it's a traditional one for the Punisher and it works quite well here. The art is strong and skillful in the way it renders characters and blocks out panels. The always-rough line finishes (particularly on faces) and the minimal backgrounds feel like weaknesses to me. I wonder what this comic would look like if Guiu Vilanova was paid more to polish or got the support of a dedicated inker. I'm disappointed by how poorly this comic tracks the SHIELD rats. Petrov st arts with four and Frank kills two, but the numbers in between are wonky. I am virtually certain we get at least a few pages showing three rats left after Frank's already got his kills. more
