Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #299 was an entertaining issue that was was brought down by some questionable character plot points. Those character plot points will leave some readers scratching their head about Teresa Parker's arc. While that part of the story is questionable Chip Zdarsky continues to excel when writing Spider-Man. He extended that by including other Avengers characters in the story to elevate the threat that Tinkerer poses the Marvel Universe. Read Full Review

This series has definitely been gaining momentum and becoming a better read each week. Spidey acts like spidey and the surrounding cast is fun as well. The art and colors have been also getting better. I really enjoyed this issue.

This series hasn't been great for me, as I am a little tired of the tech based storyline and don't care about Theresa Parker or whoever she is, but this particular issue was a fun, nicely paced read. I liked the Adam Kubert art quite a bit here, as this is one of his better looking issues, and I was pleasantly surprised by the cool reveal at the issue's end. Nice cover too!

The Tinkerer's herd of c-list villains is nicely counterbalanced by a flood of guest Avengers. This is a lot of fun even though the Tinkerer deploys a BS "instant win" button to put his team on top heading into the big climax. JJ Jameson and Betty Brant are nicely positioned at the center of the storm, too. Adam Kubert & Juan Frigeri do mighty work on the visuals, making this look just as big-budget as it needs to.
