Overall, I really enjoyed this new arc for the book, especially after what I thought was a less than stellar arc with Wiccan or Demiurge or whatever he's calling himself now and that space wizard (I don't remember the name; actually I am choosing not to remember). The events in this book take the team in an interesting new direction, and I am looking forward to see how it moves forward. I am also looking forward to seeing how the members who were sent away carry on as Avengers. And lastly, I really hope Marcus To sticks around as the artist on this book. His work, along with this story, really renewed my faith in this book and hope it stays the course. Read Full Review

There are enough of the bad tendencies of crossovers here (relatively meaningless guest appearances, flimsy action) to somewhat hold this issue back, but Al Ewing is so great at character advancement and dialogue that those problems are small comparatively. Read Full Review

Unfortunately, "New Avengers" #8 is the weakest issue of the series to date; that's a pity, because new readers might come on board for "Standoff" -- but it's the presence of "Standoff" that makes so much of this issue feel less engaging. Hopefully, once the crossover concludes next month, "New Avengers" can dust off its own storylines without much more disruption, but this definitely feels like a hiccup in a series that is normally much more consistent. It looks like Standoff has brought the best out of this book. I really enjoyed this and hopefully the next couple issues will be good before Civil War II comes around
