"New Avengers" #1 is a continuation of the previous volume, but also a new chapter with Luke Cage setting up his team in Avengers Mansion. No longer on the run, Cage and company now get to be the sort of Avengers team that longtime fans will recognize and gain a sense of legitimacy as a result. A fun, strong opening issue that dives into the action by the end. So far, "The Heroic Age" is off to a very good start, especially in the Avengers' corner of the Marvel universe. Read Full Review

Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of this issue was that it didn't feel like just another book on top of the growing Avengers pile. There are some dramatic differences between the four core Avengers titles that each highlights a unique aspect of the franchise. It's clear that no matter what your tastes may be Marvel is striving to cater at least one Avengers book that appeals to you. All told, a solid start. A little talky, but by this point in time, if youre walking into a Brian Michael Bendis Avengers book, and youre expecting something that doesnt involve quippy fights and conversations, then you really should be giving your brain a good hard look because there is something wrong with it. Immonen is an old pro. Here he went for a simpler look and style but his solid storytelling is still visible to all. I would argue hes the strongest asset of this series so far, although hes no longer a super popular comic book artist. But, hes a solid artist that can take deadlines and deliver good work. New Avengers #1 is a poor read. This issue reads much like fanfiction where the writer ignores what they do not like or simply bends things in order to create their story. I would not recommend wasting your time and money on this completely unnecessary Avengers title. There are so many other titles far more worthy of your hard earned money than New Avengers. I would only recommend New Avengers #1 to die-hard Bendis fans and die-hard Luke Cage fans. For everyone else, go elsewhere with your entertainment dollars. Read Full Review
