All things considered, it's been a while since "New Avengers" felt quite this brilliant. Now that the "Secret Invasion" slog of Skrull-induced paranoia is behind it, the series feels like it's moving forward again -- it might be on issue 48, but this almost functions as a new issue 1, and that can only be a good thing. To all of those that decided to take a break from New Avengers while it worked through Secret Invasion, it's time to get back on board. As for those that have never checked the series out, now would be a great time to give it a look. Read Full Review

Say what you want about Secret Invasion (Lord knows I have), but Bendis is making the most of it in the pages of New Avengers. It's refreshing to have these kinds of stories back in the pages of the book, and things are really looking up for the once-rebel band of Avengers. Read Full Review

Despite these problems, this is a lot more enjoyable an Avengers comic than we've seen for the past few months, and suggests that the Avengers family of books hasn't necessarily been doomed to mediocrity by the effects of Secret Invasion and "Dark Reign." Having said that, the book still has some work to do if it's to convince me that it's going to be worth following in the wake of those two disappointments. We'll see where it goes from here. help FROM NORMAN OSBORN!! It's well-written, tense, and Billy Tan's art keeps enough of the Leinil Yu to keep his fans happy, while being less scratchy and angry for those of us who don't like Yu's work. Read Full Review

New Avengers #48 was largely a pedestrian read that was saved by an incredibly exciting ending. However, I have to say that I have a positive feeling about the future of this title. I think that this ending signals that Bendis may be ready to turn the corner on this title and finally start delivering some exciting Avengers-related stories. Without a doubt, Secret Invasion dominated Bendis' attention and it showed in the pages of this title as Bendis largely phone in his effort on New Avengers over the past year. Hopefully, New Avengers will get back on track and flourish under the new Dark Reign direction of the 616 Universe. Read Full Review
