New Avengers #34

<span class="fullpost">This was a great issue and covered a lot of ground. I was a bit disappointed with no <span style="font-weight: bold;">Spider-Woman</span> discussion or progress on what she did with the Skrull <span style="font-weight: bold;">Elektra </span>body, but from previews, I know that gets picked up in Mighty Avengers in a few months. Still annoys me that she took off with it two months ago and still nothing has happened regarding it. The dialogue is really great in this issue and Bendis proves he is still one of the best with that. The issue ends with yet another cliff-hanger, making you wish that comics were a few pages longer, and will definitely have you itching to get your grubby little hands on the next exciting installment. Read Full Review

Unfortunately, the final pages of the book are more of a head-scratcher than they are an effective cliffhanger, introducing a crossover with Mighty Avengers which is hampered by the fact that the plot points featured in this book haven't yet happened in that one. It's one of the dangers of organising tight crossovers which involve titles that have an unreliable schedule, and although I'm sure things will improve after Mark Bagley takes over art duties from Frank Cho on the Mighty title, it makes this particular development fall a little flat. Ignoring those final pages, though, this isn't a bad issue at all. It's very much a transitional chapter, and one which is bound to be re-examined in the light of future developments in the overarching Skrull storyline, but it keeps things interesting for now with some good character work, fun dialogue, and a few neat developments of the team's current paranoid mindset. Bendis continues to attract and annoy at the same time while Yus art gets better with every issue. This book with all its faults continues to cast a spell over us comics readers. Whether Bendis gives us a big and satisfactory payoff for our time is yet to be seen. Read Full Review

New Avengers #34 was another pathetic read. Bendis continues to gag it each and every month on this title. Unless you are a massive Avengers fan or a loyal Bendis fan, I simply cannot recommend wasting your money on this title. It’s all coming together with New Avengers and Mighty Avengers in Secret Invasion. Also what’s going on with Spider Woman? Bendis somehow takes advantage of his hot streak after Civil War by starting up the prologue to Swcret Invasion!
