Comics: The Gathering - Charles Martin
Jan 30, 2019Ms. Marvel #37 tells a heartwarming story that concentrates on the most potentially-overlook-able members of Kamala's supporting cast. This is more of a Jersey City curtain call than a story with its own narrative momentum. That renders it somewhat inconsequential, though it is certainly still enjoyable. It's a nice bit of dessert for those of us who love this title's take on JC, and it presumably clears the decks for a more Kamala-centric finale in the next issue. Read Full Review

To me, this was a perfect standalone issue. Reminiscent of the early Ms. Marvel issues, this one was hilarious, heartfelt, and immersive. I'm sad to see Wilson go!

Water mains burst in Jersey City, producing a pocket catastrophe that serves mainly as an excuse to do cute development work on Kamala's supporting cast. It's a lovable last look at this volume's great setting-as-character, and there's plenty of heartwarming stuff spread throughout the issue. This is trying to split the difference between "Kamala as protagonist" and "Kamala as background character," though, and the seams between the two are distracting. A key part of this comic is showing a community united through neighborly proximity and shared adventures rather than cultural or class identity. Not the last one. Feel a little empty at first. But it's a love letter to the wonderfull supporting cast. Cover - The variant. Not related, but I like it. 1/2 Writing - Very strange. Seems like Wilson follow Kamalla without really knowing where that will lead but really wanted to put quality time scene to the supporting cast. I really love her work with the Imam. A very good touch to try to build a bridge to a religion we mixed too often with terrosism. There is good human in muslam rank too. 2.5/3 Arts - Nico isn't perfect. Maybe she's a little tired without a remplacement to have her energy back. It's not bad. That do the work. But that underline the strange feeling of emptyness sometime (Like I will trust the baby journey that much more
