Chelsea Cain walks a perilous tightrope with this issue. The scenes in the club could easily have got out of hand and turned this book into something sordid. Mockingbird #2 exemplifies the need for diverse creators and the value of women creating women. Had this story been written or drawn by a man, I feel as though it would have come off very differently and likely problematic. Having Cain, Niemczyk, and Rosenberg at the quill and brush of this series means we get a story of a woman with agency with less likelihood of problematic themes arising, particularly with the use of BDSM elements. Bobbi feels real, shes in charge, yet her characterization is not done in a manner that comes off hamfisted or based on mens ideals regarding women and leather. Read Full Review

The art from Niemczyk and Rosenberg keeps up well, maintaining the classic super spy aesthetic while also introducing great color and emotion. There are a few odd visual moments, but none enough to ruin the overall fun of this comic. I'm now very intrigued by the challenge here " for Cain to maintain and interlock the plot of each individual issue with the start is one thing, but to maintain and interlock the art, clothes, and all the other little details that make a flashback believable " I'm excited to see the artistic team pull it off. It's a relief and a joy to see that "Mockingbird" #2 works just as well as the first issue; Cain and Niemczyk can handle not only intricacies of an experimental storyline, but also a more straightforward one. This bodes well for the series as a whole and shows the creators' versatility. I was already firmly on board for more "Mockingbird" after the first issue, but don't be wary of the follow-up. "Mockingbird" #2 shows us that Cain and Niemczyk are a creative team to seek out. Well done. Read Full Review

The unique story structure of Mockingbird #1 was that book's most distinctive element. These next several issues are tasked with filling in the blanks and shedding light on Bobbi's misadventures in between her various doctor visits. All in all, I was disappointed to see the second issue wander so far away from the narrative of the first into seemingly unrelated territory, and I'm hoping this is blip before returning to the narrative drive that energized that first issue so well. Read Full Review

Yes the writer does what she promises. She makes you go back to the first issue to make a connection and that's pretty cool. She forces the reader to be involved and kudos to that. It's a great little story with Lance Hunter (Who's shirtless!!!!!!!!) and it's pretty cool. Light-hearted, action packed a story worth investing in.

While the banter was good, the story was total meh. I guess I didn't expect this to be so light-hearted? I guess I wanted a comic with slightly more gravitas. It just feels disappointing given how good the first issue was.
