  I'm not completely sure why the back-up stories in Miss America's issue are Whizzer solo tales, but it may simply be that more of his stories were made and remain available for reprint. This is hardly a surprising statement on the place of female characters perennially in comic books. Here we get a hint of what a Marvel counterpoint to Wonder Woman might have looked like, had she kept the spotlight longer. Read Full Review

  Overall, Miss America Comics 70th Anniversary Special #1 is a fun read, and pays tribute to an important part of the back bone of U.S. Industry during World War II, the countless Rosies who kept America supplied during the war, but it isnt as strong as the first few 70th Anniversary Specials, although it could have been. Her special, and the last, Marvel Mystery Comics #1, both represent a drop in the overall quality of the specials. Hopefully, the next, focusing on the Young Allies will rebound this line.   For your $3.99 you also get a couple of Golden Age Whizzer reprints -- for no apparent reason, except the Whizzer appears in the opening Miss America sequence -- and those, like many Golden Age Marvel Comics are terrible in a bland, unfunny way. But no one's getting this comic because they have a hankerin' for more old-school Whizzer. I don't know why they're getting it, but if they are, they'll find a lot to like in the Miss America story.
