Marvel Knights: The World To Come #5 is frustrating in proportion to its ambition. The artwork is phenomenal, the premise is genuinely inventive, and the world-building is global. But the narrative structure is so obsessed with complexity that it collapses under its own weight. A reader should not require a timeline diagram to understand basic plot progression. The issue demands respect for its intellectual scope while simultaneously failing to deliver narrative clarity necessary to make that respect stick. Read Full Review

Plot T'Challa lives in hiding and is being trained by Matt Murdock, as he recovers and prepares to stop the atrocities of his son, Ketema. In his desperation, since his father's body hasn't been found, Ketema uses the Inhuman dog Lockjaw to teleport all of Marvel's heroes to a prison. The Vatican has not recognized Ketema as the new King of Wakanda. Ketema is creating global chaos so that all nations will be begging Wakanda for help and thus become dependent on it. He is using a strategic plan devised by his father, T'Challa, for an apocalyptic event. T'Challa organizes and recruits Everett Ross, Punisher, Killmonger, Okoye, and several members of the Dora Milaje to stage a coup. Daredevil is concerned about T'Challa's destabil izing plan and prepares to stop him. Art It is detailed and achieves interesting ethereal effects that differentiate the various eras. It is mesmerizing. Summary Ketema continues his plans for world domination in his desperation to be recognized as King of Wakanda, and his father returns from hiding to stop him. more
