Another worthy addition to King in Blacks tie in anthology series, the issue is only let down by the second story which just rehashes other idea’s which have been done to death. We have a by-the-numbers Cloak & Dagger tale, and fun pilot to a Toxin ongoing which may not happen, but that potential is there. Steve Orlando does a good job selling the premise of a Toxin book featuring a new host. Between these three Planet of the Symbiote/King in Black anthologies, this one has the absolute least to do with King in Black. If any of the featured characters interest you, you'll be fine reading these. For the uninitiated, you might get something at least from the Toxin story. Read Full Review

Overall, this is an okay last issue in a miniseries that has allowed creators to play around within the confines of the King in Black event. This is by no means a necessary read, but the Toxin story makes the issue worth reading thanks to a clever idea using Symbiotes and a strong voice in its characters. The Cloak and Dagger story is more for their superfans who miss seeing them in the latest comics. Funnily enough, "Planet of the Symbiotes" was quite misleading, but if you're up for some smaller-sized side issues it's a worthy read. Read Full Review

Most of the dialogue was carried in Cloak and Dagger, and intentionally felt disjointed. It makes you feel like you are awkwardly watching a breakup happen in a fancy Italian Restaurant. Read Full Review

Both stories read like teasers, the sort of fare Marvel squeezes together into a $4.99 extravaganza advertising new series. They aren't fulfilling reads, but they might provide a hook to read another #1 issue. It was alright, even if these two stories were the weakest of the bunch. Not really keen on the new Toxin, but we'll see where this leads to.

Glad to see Toxin back. And with a new host? I expect more of him. Perhaps a fight with Dylan, because of his age - range. The Brood nod was cool. Cloak and Dagger go through their umpteenth estrangement plot and Toxin, with a cool new host, finds himself fighting Alchemax rather than Knull. The Toxin strip is a little promising; the C&D, not so much. The art is nothing special and the prose is notably bad. Things are different for Toxin; the plot of the moment is so-so but the creators invest some worthwhile effort in giving the symbiote a status quo that's worth a further look.

This really wasn't very good. The first story went on way too long and said basically nothing new about Cloak and Dagger. I feel like every time they're brought out, the same basic story beats are hit again and again. The second story was really bad and out of nowhere, and what's worse is that it seems like it's setting something up. I really hope it doesn't continue.
