Iron Man #24 is a powerful issue. The first half has one of the best showdowns since the start of the run. It felt like so much pain and struggle had led to an explosive burst of emotion and action. The wonky pace threw me for a loop, initially; I don't think anybody was expecting this arc to end with 6 pages of hero-on-hero argument. But the more I think on it, the more I like it. This resolution is the perfect counterpoint to the messiah/martyr complex Tony's been rocking throughout the arc. I think the argument skewered Tony's instinct to go it alone in a powerful, yet respectful, way. The art lives up to its usual standard of excellence, and there were plenty of spicy lines to keep the large amounts of dialogue from bogging down. (Also, I'm shocked, shocked to see that a comic where a young woman of color gets the best of an adult white man gets a bunch of lowball ratings. Well, not that shocked.)

What a stupid issue. Why does Riri suddenly care so much about the Mandarin rings? She’s never fought the Mandarin, never interacted with him and knows fuck all about the rings… So miss me with the whole “why do you not trust me?!” This ‘I’ve been studying the rings for years and want to use them for good’ is the most forced bs ever from Cuntwell, trying to self-insert Riri in Iron Man/Mandarin’s story Also Riri was so… unreasonable?? Why can’t Tony have 5 rings and she have 5 to study? Keeping them altogether is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. The ‘I don’t need to l promise you anything…” is proof Cuntwell can’t write Ironheart. Need her freed from him immediately

Dumb ending to what was shaping up to be the best run in Cantwell’s arc. If you haven’t had enough of supporting characters talking to Tony like he’s some kind of an asshole, you will love this issue…
