You know I was not super-excited about Iron Fist: Heart of the Dragon #2. I mean, I enjoyed the first issue and I am a huge Iron Fist fanboy, but it just didn't have me super-hyped. But, man, this was a fun issue. I loved every little bit of it. Hama builds up the story well, while Wachter and Menon drop some beautiful artwork. Great art and the story chugs along. Reminds me of the days of the black and white Marvel magazines and specifically the Iron Fist story from Deadly Hands of Kung Fu. Has a huge scope and a semi-dreamlike execution. I dig it.

Mother of Mercy charts out a nice apocalyptic scope for the story ahead; Danny leads his pals (with more Immortal Weapons) straight into the Hidden City. I like the dynamic strength of the art, and this issue's script doesn't feel as pretentious as the last one. It's got an enjoyable fast pace, too, but the abrupt way it cuts off is a bit disappointing.

I’ve always been so intrigued by the mythos of Iron Fist and the Heavenly Cities. I’ve been such a huge fan of the character ever since the Brubaker and Fraction run. But there is still so much I have to learn. Here’s to hoping Marvel releases a classic Iron Fist omnibus in the near future!
