Although I was disappointed that the Guardians of the Galaxy was coming to an end, Infinity Countdown #1: Adam Warlock managed to fill my appetite for Marvel's cosmic side, as Duggan brings all the charm, wit, and gravitas to the story that he has brought to Guardians and all other books he has written. Add to that the sense of wonder and nostalgia that Michael Allred's art brings to the book with splash pages that will take your breath away, this is absolutely a book that you can't miss. This single issue successfully begins setup for what will eventually be a cosmic-level event comic that encompasses almost all of the Marvel universe. In thirty pages, this is no easy feat, but the sharp and concise writing on Duggan's part nails it. The art by Mike Allred is always a pleasure, and when used on the many settings and characters visited in this issue, it is especially pleasing. Marvel's first metaphorical toe in the water of the upcomingInfinityevent hits every point it needs to for a setup issue, but also offers a story that is much deeper and will leave readers chomping at the bit for more. If the rest of this event is half as well-done as this issue, Marvel has struck gold. Read Full Review

While the larger Infinity Countdown story will likely only bear a passing resemblance to the upcoming Avengers films, if the creative team can keep up this level of quality, that's okay. So far, this event feels a bit more sequestered to cosmic reaches of the Marvel U (despite Wolverine walking around with an Infinity Stone), but that might be a good thing " it seems that Marvel has learned from the recent past, limiting the main throes of this story to a mere six issues with only a few tie-ins. As a one shot to introduce new readers to who Adam Warlock is and set up that a big threat is coming soon, which is so serious, Kang can't fix it, no matter how many times he tries, so needs help. I really enjoyed it, I'm interested to see where this story arc is going and I'd recommend checking it out. Read Full Review

Gerry Duggan has done everything he can to breathe life back into the cosmic side of Marvel, even as hes had to battle against an audience embittered by years of Bendis and his disregarding of both characterization and history. While this relaunch is a little gimmicky, hopefully it will give Duggan the momentum to continue carrying his story forward. It would have been a travesty if he couldnt, and heres hoping this new life will bring in plenty of new readers to sustain it. Read Full Review

Seeing Marvel coming out with yet another title with the Infinity tag does appear like a cheap ploy to mooch off the anticipation of the cinematic universe. Past attempts like Civil War II have certainly left a bad taste in many readers mouths. Despite that, there is reason to believe in what Gerry Duggan is doing. This issue shows he is a solid writer with a grasp of what makes these characters work. The best way to get people excited for future comics is to make good comics and that is exactly what he has been doing. Read Full Review

While the story for the issue doesn't excite, it does an excellent job of setting things up and taking us through Warlock's history. The art though is what stands out and is utterly amazing. There's something so unique about it all and out of everything this is the draw, no pun intended. A visual treat that is a solid way to catch up and see where things are going. Read Full Review

Adam warlock's journey is presented by a different Kang (maybe) at least he had me fooled. Combine it with the exquisite art of the Allreds and it's a must buy. Yes the story is lacking more details while trying to establish the mystery but this a very good appetizer and it made me very happy. Also if Kang is that scared then i really wanna know why?

I was a bit cautious about not understanding what's going on, as I haven't read the last GOTG series, especially considering that this was supposed to be an issue 151 of the series. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only the book did not require any background knowledge, a few pages were used to tell Warlock's backstory. I loved Allred's art here, and Duggan's writing was very good. I am really interested about what's coming next.

Kang lays out the Infinity Ballgame for the freshly-resurrected Adam Warlock. I can see the huge challenge in front of the script: This needs to be newbie-accessible, but also satisfying to Warlock mavens. I'm not sure it's entirely successful, particularly on the 2nd point. The art fills in the gaps and elevates the tone, supplying the grandeur that this cosmic prologue desperately needs. We move forward into the event with the shocking news that Magus is just going to be the warm-up nemesis; the face of the Big Bad is still hidden.

The cover looks great! The book is good. Just lacked anything exciting. It did what a prequel to a series should do and it did it pretty well. The art is what dragged me away from this book but i still kept reading it. It was very bad, not sure if it was badly drawn or that is Mike Allred's drawing style. If it is his drawing style, then i am not a fan of it at all. The art feels and looks like a late 80's superhero cartoon. Really bad art, atleast for this book. The Adam Warlock's design isnt that good either. He looked like a hobo version of Shazam. Gerry Duggan did a fine job for me but Mike Allred didnt.

Within the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy Duggan set up the fact that the elders of the universe were aware that something was wrong after the events of Secret Wars restarted the universe. They hinted that the gathering of the Infinity Gems was part of that disturbance. This created an interesting setup with the Gardner and the return of Adam Warlock, as well as many people gathering items of power. I was excited to see it continue in this issue. After having read the connection to the elders in Avengers this week I was very disappointed by this issue. The dialog seemed clumsy and the voices did not feel right for the characters. The premise of Adam being prepared for the future with the help of Kang is interesting enough, but they tie it more

Well that was weird. That give us pretty nothing. Another big warning on a futur the heroes will succeed to change. The fact to send it far away in the past to put him in the tomb make it a little funny. But in the same time use a idea of the John's JSA run. For those who really don't know who is warlock that may have some interest. Cover - Nice but not really giving something of the plot. Kang isn't even on the cover. 1/2 Writing - Yawn ! 1/3 Arts - At least Allred is a little more good on using human character than the usual. 2/3 Feeling - That didn't give me the need to take Infinity countdown. But Warlock is very interesting by Allred 1/2
